On the day of the final football game of the year, join us for our last Central Park race until April at the NYRR Gridiron 4M presented by The FLAG Art Foundation.
The FLAG Art Foundation is a nonprofit exhibition space that encourages the appreciation of contemporary art among diverse audiences. Founded in 2008 by art patron and philanthropist Glenn Fuhrman, FLAG presents rotating exhibitions that include artworks borrowed from a variety of sources. FLAG invites a broad range of creative individuals to curate thematic group shows and works in-depth with artists to provide curatorial support and a platform to realize solo exhibitions. Based in Manhattan’s Chelsea art district, FLAG and all of its related programs are free and open to the public.
Check back in closer to race day for the reveal of the 2023 race T-shirt, designed by Baltimore-born, Brooklyn-based artist, Derrick Adams. The inspiration for the design he said was “focused on the collective spirit of the race, over the individual winners - community building through a shared love for running."
Working across painting, collage, sculpture, performance, video, and sound installations, Adams explores image-making and how African American experiences intersect with art history, American iconography, popular culture, and consumerism.

Race Day
Longest Football Throw Competition
Warm up your arm and get ready for the return of the Longest Football Throw contest before the race. Between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m., you can take one attempt at a Hail Mary toss to prove your quarterbacking skills. The longest thrower in each division (women, non-binary, men) will take home a prize!
Bag Check
Bag check will be available beginning at 7:30 a.m. at Race-Day Central (located along the 102 Transverse near backstop of ballfield 8).
The Course
The race takes a counter-clockwise loop of the park that starts on the 102nd Street Cross Drive, runs down to the 72nd Street Transverse, and then heads back north to the finish on the 102nd Street Cross Drive.
Start on the 102nd Street Cross Drive near East Drive, heading west and turning left onto West Drive. Follow West Drive until you approach the 72nd Street Transverse, where you will turn left onto the Transverse.
On the Transverse, at the half-way point of the race, you can run to the left or the right side of the road to "vote" for your pick for the winner of that night's game.
As you approach East Drive, make another left turn, and continue north until the finish line near the 102nd Street Cross Drive.
