Gear up for the final football game and cap off the Central Park racing season until spring at the NYRR Gridiron 4M Presented by The FLAG Art Foundation. Wear your favorite team’s jersey, run through our game-day predictor on the course, and try your chance at our longest football throw contest.

The FLAG Art Foundation is a nonprofit exhibition space that encourages the appreciation of contemporary art among diverse audiences. Founded in 2008 by art patron and philanthropist Glenn Fuhrman, FLAG presents rotating exhibitions that include artworks borrowed from a variety of sources. FLAG invites a broad range of creative individuals to curate thematic group shows and works in-depth with artists to provide curatorial support and a platform to realize solo exhibitions. Based in Manhattan’s Chelsea art district, FLAG and all of its related programs are free and open to the public.

The premium for this race will be a long sleeve tech T-shirt, designed by Mark Grotjahn. Mark Grotjahn (b. 1968, Pasadena, CA) is an artist living and working in Los Angeles, CA. Grotjahn received a BFA from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1990 and an MFA from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1995. His work is in the public collections of The Hammer Museum, Carnegie Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, NY, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Walker Art Center, the Whitney Museum of American Art, among others.

Through experimentation and self-reflection, Mark Grotjahn’s enigmatic paintings allow for gestures and geometry to create abstract, idiosyncratic, and sometimes mystical forms. For the 2024 NYRR Gridiron 4M Presented by The FLAG Art Foundation, Grotjahn was excited to share a design that incorporated the figurative side of his practice—melding both the physicality and spirit of camaraderie amongst fellow runners.
