TCS New York City Marathon 9+1 Program
The TCS New York City Marathon is a global sporting event, but it’s also a hometown race, and the 9+1 program exists to give our local members an opportunity to earn a guaranteed spot in the following year’s TCS New York City Marathon.
2023 Program for 2024 Guaranteed Entry
Runners who completed the 2023 9+1 program are eligible for guaranteed entry to the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon and will be informed of their status their NYRR dashboard. Runners must have an active NYRR Membership as of December 31, 2023 to complete the 9+1 program in 2023. Athletes with who earned 9+1 will be invited to claim their guaranteed entry during the claim window (February 21 – March 21, 2024). Please note that if you already have entry to the 2024 Marathon through another method, you cannot complete the 2023 program to gain eligibility to the 2025 or later Marathon. Guaranteed entries not submitted during the guaranteed entry claim window are forfeited.
2024 Program for 2025 Guaranteed Entry
In 2024, there are more than 30 in-person races and there are three virtual races that are eligible for 9+1 program credit toward guaranteed entry to the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon. In order to complete the 9+1 program and earn guaranteed, non-complimentary entry, runners must:
- Register for and complete 9 qualifying races in 2024; qualifying events will be indicated on each event’s race page
- Volunteer at one +1 qualifying opportunity
- Have an active NYRR membership as of December 31, 2024. Not a member? Join today!
Runners who complete the 2024 9+1 program will be eligible for guaranteed entry to the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon and will be informed of their status in 2025 prior to the entry claim period. Please note that if you already have entry to the 2025 Marathon through another method, you cannot complete the 2024 program and to gain eligibility to the 2026 or later Marathon.

FAQs
What are the requirements to complete the 2024 9+1 program?
The requirements are the same as previous years. To earn non-complimentary guaranteed entry to the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon, runners must:
- Register for and complete 9 qualifying races
- Volunteer at one +1 qualifying opportunity
- Have an active NYRR membership as of December 31, 2024
If I complete the 2024 9+1 program, can I use my non-complimentary guaranteed TCS New York City Marathon entry for 2026 or another future year?
No. Runners who complete the 2024 9+1 program will be eligible for entry only to the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon. Entry will not be rolled forward to 2026 or other future years. If you already have entry to the 2025 Marathon through another method, you cannot complete the 2024 program and to gain eligibility to the 2025 or later Marathon.
What are the 2024 9+1 qualifying races?
Remaining races for 2024 can be viewed in our race calendar. Please use the "All race types" filter and select "9+1" to find qualifying races. Runners can register for and complete both the in-person and virtual versions of a race and earn two separate credits (e.g. register for and complete both the in-person Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K and the Virtual Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K Powered by Strava).

What are the +1 volunteer opportunities?
Opportunities can be found on our volunteer opportunities page and include remaining 2024 NYRR races.
Note: Runners must sign up for and complete their volunteer shift in 2024 and should be aware that opportunities late in 2024 will fill quickly.

Do I need to be an active NYRR member while I complete the program?
Your membership must be active on December 31, 2024 in order to complete the 2024 9+1 program for guaranteed entry into 2025.
