Gordon Bakoulis has coached thousands of runners at all levels since 1985. She is certified as a running coach by the RRCA and as a personal trainer by ACE. The founding coach of Athena New York women's running team, Gordon has also coached with NYRR, Craftsbury Running Camp, and Maine Running Camp.
Gordon qualified for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004, and was a finalist in the 1992 U.S. Olympic 10,000-meter trials. She represented the United States at the 1989 World Cup Marathon, the 1991 World Championships Marathon, the 1992 World Championships Half-Marathon, and the 1992 Beijing International Ekiden. Gordon has PRs of 2:33:01 (marathon), 1:11:34 (half-marathon), and 32:45 (10K).
She is an eight-time NYRR Fred Lebow Runner of the Year, and twice finished among the top 10 women in the New York City Marathon. In 2010, NYRR named Gordon the 2000-09 Runner of the Decade. The editorial director of NYRR and the former editor-in-chief of Running Times, Gordon is the author of three books on running. She lives in New York City with her husband (also an accomplished marathoner) and their three children.
