Our COVID-19 Relief Efforts
Updated May 13, 2020
New York Road Runners knows that our community is presently running alone, together. In this unprecedented time, we want to provide you with information that will help keep you healthy and safe, as well as information on our efforts to support the wider community here in New York City. This page will also provide updates on race cancellations and changes to other events, along with tips on how you can run safely and stay active at home.
Here are the steps we're taking during this crisis.
NYRR supports.
To show our support for New York City, NYRR has donated $100,000 to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City to provide these workers with 10,000 meals as they work around the clock in the New York City Health and Hospitals system.
We have also donated 20,000 pairs of examination gloves to frontline workers, as well as approximately 7,800 ponchos to support frontline medical workers. We are working daily with our City partners to provide food, supplies, and additional resources to help meet the growing needs of the City’s Health and Hospitals system.
#TeamNYRR is continuing to work with @nycgov to support frontline medical workers, this morning donating approx. 7,800 ponchos. We remain in contact with City officials to provide additional resources. #NYTough pic.twitter.com/LyqckrZ830

NYRR has also been working to donate water, pretzels, and other recovery products originally intended for recently-canceled events to FDNY EMS, Community Help in Park Slope, City Harvest, the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce, and the Coney Island Lighthouse Mission. Thank you to our partners Poland Spring® Brand, Gatorade Endurance, Honey Stinger, and Snyder’s of Hanover for their generous donations.
We've canceled all in-person events through August 15.
In accordance with New York City’s newly updated restriction on public events through June 30, all New York Road Runners (NYRR) in-person events and programs in June have been canceled. In addition, NYRR has canceled all races and in-person events through August 15.
All runners registered for canceled races during the COVID-19 outbreak will have the choice of an entry fee refund or other race resolution options. This exception to current NYRR race registration policy is being implemented to support the running community during these challenging times. NYRR will be connecting directly with runners impacted by canceled races regarding their specific resolution options. Details on canceled race resolutions are available on this page.
In the days and weeks ahead, NYRR will continue to work closely with government officials regarding the ongoing status of scheduled in-person events and programs with the possibility of additional cancellations in the future.

We're adapting our programs to serve runners at home.
We've launched Rising New York Road Runners Active at Home, a selection of exercises from our Rising New York Road Runners programs to help parents and teachers keep their kids moving while away from the classroom. These exercises have been selected from the larger program because they are easy to adapt to a space at home, while also keeping aligned with social distancing guidelines.
We're working to adapt our programs for senior citizens, as well. Look for our NYRR Striders at Home site to launch in the near future.
We've continued our NYRR Volvo Virtual Racing Series Powered by Strava with the NYRR Virtual 5K, inviting runners from around the world to run 3.1 miles—when and where it is safe to do so—any time between April 15 and April 30, as well as with the Virtual NYRR Brooklyn Half from May 1 to May 17.
We're giving you tips on how to stay safe on the run.
Follow these health and safety tips from NYRR coaches to ensure that you're protecting yourself and others if you choose to run outside.
