Celebrate with the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce

This year, we highlight the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce for their incredible impact through commercial and small business development, educational services, and arts and culture. Its mission is to improve the quality of life for all residents and develop and attract quality business and professional services. We join in celebrating their efforts, paving the way as the oldest continual business organization in upper Manhattan. Check out how the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce and its partners are celebrating Black History Month.

On February 24th at 7pm, the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce is joining with the Harlem Music Festival and the City College of New York and inviting you to attend the upcoming National Jazz Museum in Harlem’s Black History Month Gala Concert, “UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT.” This performance will be a tribute to the Harlem legacies of Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald. Learn more about the event here.

Where to Run Your #BlackHistoryMonth5K

All virtual race registrations include a 30-day Strava subscription, which provides access to Strava Routes. Use the Strava route builder to create your own #BlackHistoryMonth5K route through your city.

You can also change your Map Type on Strava. All year round, Strava has a Black Lives Matter Map Type, where the activity map changes from the typical orange line to a black line with a heart. You can change your Map Type on your Strava activity after you completed your run by clicking Edit Activity > Change Map Type in Strava. Learn more about Strava Map here.

If you are participating in NYC, here are a few places to consider logging your miles:

Share Your Run on Social Media

While on your run, take a photo of local monuments, parks, and places that highlight Black history, share it on social media, tag @nyrr, and use #BlackHistoryMonth5K, or share it with the NYRR community on our Facebook page.

Run Safely with Strava Beacon

As we celebrate Black History Month, it’s imperative that we acknowledge deeply embedded inequities that impact the lives of Black people, including runners, and their ability to run safely.

To support runners’ safety, our virtual racing partner Strava created Strava Beacon to help runners share their real-time location with family and friends. To share a Beacon from connected devices, you can redeem your 30-day Strava subscription. Learn more about how to redeem your subscription.

NYRR Virtual 6 Program

While general entry is free, you can also purchase entry for this race to begin or to continue your journey to earning guaranteed, non-complimentary entry to the 2025 RBC Brooklyn Half as part of the NYRR Virtual 6 program.
