Each week, A Quarter-Mile With will feature a club captain/runner as NYRR spotlights our club runners. This week, we focus on Benjamin Green from Front Runners New York.
Name: Benjamin Green
Club: Front Runners New York
Fartlek or tempo? Fartlek. It’s the perfect type of run with a group of friends. Pick a sign, tree, person, or some type of object and sprint to it. Then you have an easy recovery and someone else in the group picks the next object to sprint to. Try it!
Favorite NYRR race? TCS New York City Marathon. It is New York’s biggest block party—let’s go have fun!
Favorite race distance? 10 miles. Not toooo long and not toooo short.
Favorite distance to run? Any. Just lace up and get your body moving!
Running hero? A new runner is my hero! Why? They are trying something new, which takes a lot of courage.
Post-race meal? Fresh bread, veggies, and chocolate. Did I mention chocolate? Of course, in moderation.
Cold-weather or warm-weather running? Warm-weather running—less is more!
Treadmills: yay or nay? Nay. I prefer to be outside with nature. How often can you see the sun rise or set while listening to the birds on a treadmill?
Most exotic place you’ve run? The beach—any beach—or Japan.
Race-day inspiration quote? I only have to hold this feeling for XX minutes!
Toughest race course, in your opinion? North Face Endurance Challenge at Bear Mountain—one fun but challenging trail race just outside of NYC.
Song that makes you want to go faster? “Confident” by Demi Lovato.
You can run alongside any three people in the world: Who are they? My brother, my cousin, and my best friend, Philip.
Best non-running account you follow on Instagram? BlindNinja—recently visually impaired runner who does not let any challenges stop him!
Your club, in five words or less? Friendly, fun, inclusive, supportive, and competitive.
