  • Group Training

Angie has been a certified running coach since 2016, and was coaching corporate groups and private clients and leading running tours before joining NYRR Group Training in May 2019. She loves coaching groups, and as a former Group Training runner, she understands the magic of training with others.

Although she has had asthma since being a kid in Montana, running snuck into her life back in the late 90s, with a paper route she shared with her mom (running house-to-house to get the job done as soon as possible). Her junior high track coach then put her in the mile, but she was more interested in the school choir than running at the time. It wasn’t until moving to New York that her running took off.

Her first race (outside of middle school track) was a half-marathon in upstate New York, and she quickly became hooked. She has run Hood to Coast twice, more than a dozen half-marathons, 5Ks, etc., and nine marathons, seven of which were the New York City Marathon. When she’s not running, she stays busy as a personal trainer, yoga instructor, barre teacher, and cat mom.

Q&A with Angie

What program do you coach?
Group Training

What languages do you speak?
English

How would you describe your coaching style?
Caring, down-to-earth, holistic.

What is your proudest coaching moment?
My proudest coaching moment was watching all the runners finish their Virtual TCS New York City Marathons in 2020. Seeing them cross a finish line in the pouring cold rain and knowing that they had just completed one of the most difficult races with little spectator support was extremely touching.

What is your favorite workout to coach and why?
My favorite workouts to coach are 200-meter repeats and tempo runs: 200-meter repeats because they are such a confidence booster and so powerful, and tempo runs because they are an art to do well. It's so satisfying when as a coach you can really see the group handling their tempo with control and grace.

How many years have you been coaching?
More than five years.

Please list any awards, achievements, or certifications below.
• Certified Personal Trainer
• Certified Barre Instructor
• Certified Yoga Instructor (250 hour)
• Road Runners Club of America Certified Run Coach Level 1

What is your favorite place to run in New York City?
I love exploring. Randall's Island is great, but so is Chinatown at 8:00 a.m. on a Sunday.

What is your favorite NYRR race?
TCS New York City Marathon (New Balance 5th Avenue Mile is a close second).

What is your personal running motto?
My motto changes with my training season. Because of COVID, my motto for the past year-plus has been "Any run is a good run."
