Una fiesta desde el parque hasta el paseo marítimo en la RBC Brooklyn Half 2024
More than 28,000 runners—a record number—conquered the 2024 RBC Brooklyn Half, Brooklyn's definitive half marathon, in the event's 42nd running, making the race the largest half marathon in the country in 2024. Accompanying free youth races featured hundreds of kids running an out-and-back mile along Ocean Parkway.
“Now the party really starts,” said NYRR Senior Vice President of Events and Race Director Ted Metellus at the start.
It was an ideal morning for running, with light clouds and cooling breezes throughout the 13.1-mile route. The top finishers scored convincing wins: Ryan Cutter of Brooklyn Track Club in 1:04:09 (men), Olympian Kim Conley in 1:12:43 (women), and S.C. Ferral of Brooklyn Track Club in 1:14:09 (non-binary).
First run in 1981, the RBC Brooklyn Half is one of the country’s largest and most anticipated half marathons and an unofficial kickoff to summer. The course takes in the unique and diverse neighborhoods of Brooklyn, beginning at the Brooklyn Museum, passing Grand Army Plaza, and running through Prospect Park and along Ocean Parkway to a celebratory finish on the Coney Island boardwalk.
Brooklyn is home to a vibrant running culture, with nearly 100 NYRR-engaged run clubs, totaling 16,000 members, based on the borough. About 20 percent of the RBC Brooklyn Half finishers today were borough residents, with over 2,000 of them members of Brooklyn clubs.
“With an influx of NYRR members from Brooklyn, the borough has experienced a significant running boom,” said Rob Simmelkjaer, CEO of NYRR. “The RBC Brooklyn Half has become integral to the borough."
Several notable personalities were among the finishers today including Nev Schulman, MTV’s Catfish host and producer running for NYRR Team for Kids, and Brooklyn resident Zac Clark, TV personality running on behalf of Release Recovery. Read about other notable local runners here.
Along the route, local clubs and crews cheered for their teammates and everyone else working to complete their 13.1 miles. Many spectators showed their support with inspiring, innovative, and sometimes hilarious signs. Over 1,600 volunteers supported runners from start to finish.
Hundreds of runners raised funds for Team for Kids to support NYRR’s youth and community programs. TFK has raised over $100 million since 2002.
After the race, the RBC Brooklyn Half After-Party took place at Maimonides Park, featuring a live taping of the podcast NYRR Set the Pace Presented by Peloton.
The free Boardwalk Kids Run at the RBC Brooklyn Half for youth ages 2–18 took place on a 1-mile out-and-back course and shorter routes alongside the half marathon course, showcasing the future of the sport and allowing the adult runners to cheer the kids on.
The event's title partner is Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), a purpose-driven global financial institution that, similar to NYRR, is strongly committed to giving back to communities.
Congratulations to all finishers, and thank you to our partners, New York City agencies, volunteers, NYRR staff, and supporters! Check out our press release here, photo galleries here, adult race results here, and youth race results here.
