The 9+1 and 9+$1K programs allow NYRR members who meet eligibility requirements to earn guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon! Here are the requirements for the 2014 marathon:

Join NYRR by December 31, 2013 (i.e. must have an active NYRR membership by year-end)*

Complete nine scored, qualifying races during 2013

Volunteer at one NYRR event during 2013 or donate $1,000 to NYRR’s Youth and Community Services programs

Apply for guaranteed entry to the 2014 ING New York City Marathon (information available in late 2013)
*For the 2014 marathon only, the NYRR membership deadline has been extended until December 31, 2013. All qualifying races completed within the calendar year will count toward 9+1 status regardless of membership status at the time of the race. In previous and future years, membership was and will be required to be active as of January 31 of the calendar year.
*Volunteer credits for 2013 no longer appear in your membership history. They are displayed on your dashboard when you log on My NYRR.
Rules and Restrictions

Volunteering in 2013 satisfies the volunteering requirement for the 2014 marathon only—not the 2013 marathon.

Volunteering on race day (November 3) at the 2013 ING New York City Marathon does not count towards the 9+1 guaranteed entry requirements.

Volunteering at any race-week activity (such as the ING New York City Marathon Health & Fitness Expo, the Marathon Eve Dinner, or the Dash to the Finish Line 5K) does fulfill your volunteer requirement.

Volunteering to fulfill your 2014 +1 requirement must be complete by December 31, 2013-no exceptions.

You may send a substitute to volunteer on your behalf and still meet your 9+1 requirement. Simply have your substitute inform the volunteer coordinator that he/she is volunteering on your behalf. The substitute must be 18 years or older.

You are not permitted to volunteer and participate in a race on the same day. If you attempt to do so, you will not receive credit for the volunteer requirement or the race.

Most volunteer shifts are 4-5 hours. You must be prepared to work the whole shift in which scheduled and fulfill your volunteer duties as described. Incomplete service or inappropriate behavior will not gain you a Volunteer Credit.

If you are volunteering in the YCS department for your +1 credit. You must participate in a minimum of 3 programs to receive your credit.
