David Atkinson got started with competitive running all the way back in middle school. After moving to NYC, he rediscovered a love for the sport, thanks in large part to the amazing community of runners that has been cultivated by NYRR. As a member of the Hellgate Road Runners he's run almost every club points race since 2015, and he's still hitting new PRs. In an attempt to be well rounded, he's also taken to triathlons. And if he's not participating in a race, you might see him on the sidelines with a ridiculous amount of camera gear, photographing away.
Personal bests: 1M 5:08, 5K 18:52, 10K 39:53, half-marathon 1:24:58, marathon 3:17:13.
Where is your favorite place to run in New York?
Hard to choose! But I have to go with Astoria Park, it's my club's home and where I started coaching with NYRR.
What is your favorite NYRR race?
New Balance 5th Avenue Mile! It's great fun to race, and because of the way it's structured I can race AND cheer for my friends AND see the professionals!
What is your personal running motto?
Keep putting in the work!
