The 2019 TCS New York City Marathon application guaranteed-entry claim window was January 14–February 14 and the entry drawing took place on February 27. During the window, runners were able to apply to the drawing or claim their guaranteed entry. Entry is still available through NYRR Team for Kids, Official Charity Partners, and International Tour Operators.
Eligibility for guaranteed entry to the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon was available to members of the groups listed below during the application window, January 14 through February 14, 2019. Guaranteed entries not claimed during this time period were forfeited.
Entrants Through the 9+1 or 9+$1K Program
NYRR members who met the 9+1 program requirements during 2018 were eligible to apply for guaranteed entry to the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon during the application window.
Cancelled in 2018
Entrants who officially cancelled their entry to the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon according to the cancellation guidelines were eligible for guaranteed non-complimentary entry to the 2019 race during the application window. Entrants who cancel their entry in consecutive years are not eligible for guaranteed entry after the second consecutive cancellation.
Runners using handcycles to participate in the 2019 race are not eligible for guaranteed entry by means of cancelling a registration for the 2018 event.
Runners Who Have Completed 15 or More New York City Marathons
Runners who finish their 15th New York City Marathon will continue to be eligible for guaranteed entry in future years. This entry method is not available to handcycle applicants.
Entrants Through NYRR Virtual Racing
Entrants who registered for and completed the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon – Virtual 26.2M race in compliance with NYRR rules were eligible to claim guaranteed, non-complimentary entry to the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon during the application window (January 14–February 14, 2019).
NYRR Time Qualifiers
The time-standard qualifying window for the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon was January 1–December 31, 2018. The time-qualifying standards, listed below, are for runners only. This method of entry was not available to those individuals who would participate using a pushrim wheelchair or handcycle.
All applicants who met the time standards at the following NYRR races in 2018 were eligible for guaranteed entry in 2019 during the application window: 2018 NYRR Fred Lebow Manhattan Half, 2018 United Airlines NYC Half, 2018 SHAPE Women's Half-Marathon, 2018 Popular Brooklyn Half, 2018 NYRR Staten Island Half, and 2018 TCS New York City Marathon.
A limited number of time-qualifier spots were available to runners who met the time standards in a non-NYRR race. These spots were filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants who applied with a non-NYRR race qualifying time were placed in the non-guaranteed entry drawing until their time could be verified. Verification was completed prior to the 2019 drawing on February 27, 2019.

The TCS New York City Marathon is known for being an extremely diverse race, and at New York Road Runners, we pride ourselves on offering many methods by which runners can gain entry. We intend for our time standards to offer equal access to our most competitive applicants across all age categories and to allow the highest possible percentage of runners from each category to earn guaranteed entry into the TCS New York City Marathon.
