About

It's time for our final youth cross-country event of the season! Come on out to Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx for this free event open to boys and girls of all ages and ability levels. All stages will participate in skill-appropriate activities before a cross country run.

Details of the Day

Activities

This event's activities begin at 10:00 a.m. and will include a selection of the following:

  • Stepping Stones: Participants work on balance by hopping from spot to spot.
  • Shuttle Relays: 50-meter relays where participants practice speed and coordination.
  • Beanbag Toss: Participants toss beanbags at targets to improve throwing strength and technique.
  • Fitness Tag: Participants play tag while completing fitness challenges.
  • Day at the Zoo: Participants practice fundamental movement skills by imitating animal movements.
  • Foot Fire: Participants undergo footwork drills to improve speed and coordination.
  • Hoop Target Practice: Participants toss beanbags into targets to improve throwing strength and technique.
  • Mission Possible: Participants undergo team challenges to complete a mission.
  • Red Light, Green Light: Participants run varying speeds according the colors of traffic lights.
  • Obstacle Course: Participants run, jump, climb, and hop through a course of various challenges.

 

Kids Can Visit the Intrepid Museum for Free

On event days, your child’s Rising New York Road Runners bib will get them free admission to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, with the purchase of a full-priced adult ticket. Just present your race bib at the Intrepid’s box office to receive this offer.

Race Number Pickup

Numbers (which include a timing tag for Stage 3) may be picked up at the NYRR RUNCENTER at 320 West 57th Street (between Eighth and Ninth avenues) on the following dates:

  • Saturday, November 9, 8:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, November 10, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
  • Monday, November 11, 7:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, November 12, 7:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, November 13, 7:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, November 14, 7:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
  • Friday, November 15, 7:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 16, 8:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.

Show the QR code from your race confirmation email or your NYRR account to pick up your race materials.

On race day, number pickup will be at Van Cortlandt Park, near the Tortoise and Hare statue at Broadway and 248th Street, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Bag check, also located near the Tortoise and Hare statue, will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

New Balance long sleeve shirts, the souvenir for this event, will be available for pickup on site on race day only. Shirt sizes are subject to availability.

Awards

All finishers will receive a ribbon. Stage 3 (ages 12-18) heat winners will also receive podium awards.
