Buenas noticias sobre las corridas de esta (larga y extraña) semana

The world is living through strange times. At NYRR, we want you to know that we empathize. Most of us are runners, too, and yet we all are eagerly looking for ways to stay safe, healthy, and sane. As the reality of the situation settles in, we thought we could share some good running news that made us smile this week, both from our favorite runners on social media and from some great reporters. We hope you will smile, too.

Kara Goucher is all of us.

Rebecca Mehra, pictured at top on the far right after taking third place in the 2019 NYRR New Balance 5th Avenue Mile, tweeted about buying groceries for an elderly couple in her hometown, Bend, Oregon, who feared exposing themselves to the coronavirus.

CNN interviewed Mehra about her good deed, as did CBS News, USA Today, and the Bend Bulletin.

Steph Bruce’s kids are breaking the NYRR tape in their hallway.

Bruce is also offering to send healthy snacks from the business she co-owns, Picky Bars, to healthcare workers and families for whom food is scarce.

Emma Coburn wants us to support our local businesses.

Emily Sisson got another dog, and we’re so excited to see her good boy, Desmond, play together with good girl Tori.

Women in Somaliland are discovering running

A runner in the postponed Boston Marathon is undeterred in her training and fundraising.

The coronavirus has closed gyms and there are no sports on TV. People are responding by...going running

A French marathoner ran a full 26.2...on his balcony. While quarantined. Runners are finding a way.

This week’s episode of the Ali on the Run podcast features an interview with Jacqueline Alnes, whose “tiny art”—small-scale watercolor paintings—of pro runners has made her a fan favorite on Instagram. It’s a welcome escape from coronavirus content.
