These clinics are designed to help coaches prepare their students for the spring meets and review the training program and other available resources. It is also an opportunity to get detailed information about this season’s program, ask questions of NYRR staff, and network with coaches from other schools. The clinics are useful and engaging for coaches of all experience levels, either new to or familiar with DTFS.
A coach from each school must attend a mandatory coaching clinic as part of the program and may be eligible to be paid the standard training rate by the DOE Office of School Wellness Programs (not applicable to Charter School teachers). Coaches new to DTFS can also sign up to receive a DTFS Equipment Pack after attending this clinic.
No school will be able to participate in the DTFS program if its coach does not attend a coaching clinic.
NYRR’s Track and Field Training Program was specifically created for DTFS coaches. It consists of 14 workout guides, each suitable for use in one lesson or practice session, and covers all of the track and field events in the series. They feature a range of activities, many with accompanying videos for demonstration, that help students develop and improve their skills.
The complete Track and Field Training Program is available online.
The Track and Field Training Program is just one of a number of online resources from NYRR available to teachers and coaches. Please check out A Running Start to see award-winning coaching videos, P.E. lesson plans, nutrition activities, event guides, and more.
