For Mighty Milers and Young Runners Program Leads
As part of our mission, Run for Life, we want to get every person active, not just the kids. To this end, NYRR Mighty Milers would like to offer each of our youth running program sites two guaranteed entries into the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon. Entries will be available to claim December 20, 2016.
How does my site qualify to receive 2017 TCS New York City Marathon guaranteed, non-complimentary entries?
To qualify, you must have an officially enrolled Mighty Milers program, and your roster(s) and first session with miles must be entered in STRIDES by December 16, 2016.
How many entries do we get?
Each qualifying site may claim up to two guaranteed, non-complimentary marathon entries for the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon.
Who can use the entries?
The guaranteed, non-complimentary entries may be used only by site staff (individuals who are employed at your site) or program staff (including those who volunteer with your program).
We have other community members who want to run the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon but are not eligible for these entries. How can they register?
Runners who wish to participate in the marathon, but are not eligible for guaranteed entry as part of this initiative, can enter the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon general entry drawing, which is open from January 2017, to February 2017, or participate as part of a charity team such as Team For Kids, whose participants receive expert training, group runs, and VIP perks, while fundraising to support NYRR youth running programs.
What does “guaranteed, non-complimentary” mean?
This means that you are guaranteed a spot in the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon, and that you must pay the processing fee and the entry fee in order to complete your registration.
You are also responsible for paying for any other expenses incurred as a result of your participation in the marathon (e.g., travel and lodging).
How do we claim our entries?
Entries will be made available via online application December 20, 2016. The deadline to claim is February 1, 2017.
How do I know if the names I submitted have been accepted for the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon?
You will receive an email confirmation once we have verified your eligibility and added your runners to our database.
After I submit the runner(s) for my site, can I make any changes?
Once you have submitted your runners’ names and received confirmation from us, changes are not permitted.
My school or community center has a Mighty Milers program and a Young Runners program. If both programs at our school earned 2017 TCS New York City Marathon spots, how many entries do we get?
You can earn four marathon spots. Two through Mighty Milers and two through Young Runners. (See the submission guidelines for Young Runners.)
What important deadlines should I be aware of?
Can we sell or auction our entries?
No. Entries may be used only by site or program staff and may not be sold or auctioned. Once you have entered an event, your entry is non-exchangeable, non-transferable, and non-refundable, under any and all circumstances, including, but not limited to, cancellation of the event or of your participation, or change in the date, nature, or format of the event.
Can we use our entries to raise money for our program?
Although you cannot sell or auction your entries, your runners can solicit donations in support of their efforts through a site such as CrowdRise.
Runner Registration and Training
How do I register for the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon?
You will receive an invitation via email in March with a unique code that will allow you to register. You must have a My NYRR profile in order to register; you may create this profile for free at My NYRR. You must use the same email address that was submitted for your guaranteed entry. After you have created your profile and logged in, you will need to enter your unique code in order to register for the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon.
What important dates and deadlines should I be aware of?
I got my registration code, but now I’ve decided not to run. Can I transfer the code to someone else?
No. Registration codes are uniquely generated for each runner, and the name, birth date, and email address attached to the code must match the My NYRR profile of the registrant.
I got my registration code and I’m signed up for the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon, but now I have more questions. Whom should I contact?
How do I train for a marathon?
We recommend the NYRR Virtual Training Program, which is tailored to fit your schedule and ability level.
