Rose Kosgei of Kenya dominated the field at the NYRR New York Mini 10K, winning without contest (32:43) in her Mini debut. Serena Burla of Ellisville, MO, was second in a personal-best 33:04, and Ethiopian Hirut Mandefro took third in 33:13.

Rose Kosgei, a Kenyan who lives in Santa Fe, NM, led from the start horn.

Ashu Kasim of Ethiopia matched Kosgei’s 5:04 first mile.

Amy Hastings, Magdalena Lewy Boulet, Buzunesh Deba, and Catherine Ndereba raced up Central Park West.

Kosgei asserted her lead as the pair headed toward the northern hills of Central Park.

Kosgei maintained at least a 20-second lead thorough the remainder of the race.

Kosgei remarked that her Mini victory is the greatest of her career thus far.

Serena Burla, who ran a 15:50 5K three months after the birth of her son, achieved a PR.

A West Side Runner who lives in Silver Spring, MD, Hirut Mandefro bettered the 33:41 she ran at last month’s Healthy Kidney 10K by 28 seconds.

Two-time Olympic marathon silver medalist Catherine Ndereba of Kenya was fourth in 33:21.

The South African national champion at 5000 meters, René Kalmer took fifth in 33:29.

USA Half-Marathon champion Magdalena Lewy Boulet coincidentally wore the number six and placed sixth in 33:32.

Buzunesh Deba of the Westchester Track Club was the top local finisher.

New York Athletic Club (NYAC) runner Kelly Jaske, who lives in Portland, OR, began running only a few years ago.

Fifth in the Mini in 2005, Yuri Kano of Japan finished in ninth place.

The second-highest NYAC finisher, Stephanie Rothstein, lives in Eugene, OR.

Sixth-place finisher in the Mini in 2006, Amy Rudolph placed 12th in 33:59.

The most successful cross-country runner in Arizona State University history, Amy Hastings finished 15th.

Sara Slattery, the 2008 USA 8K champion, placed 16th in 34:48.

Deena Kastor, winner of the 2004 Mini, took it easy due to foot pain.

Kosgei and Burla pause to savor their accomplishments.
