Demesse Tefera of the Westchester Track Club led a 1-2-3 sweep by his team. He won the race in a sprint finish; his time of 23:39 was excellent for the hot, humid conditions.

Worku Beyi of WTC shared the lead with Tefera until 100 meters remained, then went for the win. Tefera responded and edged ahead; Beyi settled for second in 23:41.

WTC’s Deresse Deniboba ran alone in third for much of the race. He finished in 24:15. WTC won the open men’s team competition with 66 points.

New Zealand Olympian John Henwood, who competes for the New York Athletic Club, was fourth in 24:41.

A newcomer on the local scene, Oleksander Holovnytskyy took fifth in 24:59, leading the Warren Street Social & Athletic Club to a third-place finish among open men’s teams.

Holovnytskyy’s WS teammate Edvard Gapak was the next finisher, sixth in 25:23.

Carl Dambkowski of the Nike Central Park Track Club finished eighth in 25:38. His open men’s team took fourth.

The West Side Runners, led by Felipe Garcia (13th in 25:49), were fifth in the open men’s team competition.

Jimmy Lynch of Urban Athletics was first among masters in 25:41, edging perennial 40+ champion Paul Thompson of WS (in blue), who ran 25:43. Michael Cassidy (14th, 25:57) led his Greater New York Racing Team to a second-place open men’s finish.

Daniel Treglia (in yellow) of GNY ended up ahead of John MacConnell of Front Runners New York; they finished 17th (26:41) and 22nd (26:51), respectively.

First in the 45-49 age group, not unexpectedly, was Piotr Karasiewicz of the Polish Runners Club in 27:02. He finished 24th overall.

Matthew Turlip of GNY won the under-20 age-group. He was 39th overall in 28:01.

82nd place overall went to James Riddle of the Brooklyn Road Runners Club. He ran 29:33; here he leads Tom Phillips, 53, of CPTC (in orange), who ran 29:52.

Anthony Pitaressi of the New York Flyers finished 114th overall in 30:17. Behind him is his teammate Patrick Duffy, who moved up to take 104th in 30:06.

Necdet Kaynak, 52, of Witold’s Runners was 157th in 31:11. He was 11th in his age-group.

Second place in the 60-64 age group was Inkul Yoo of the Korean Marathon Club. He ran 32:30—exactly 6½ minutes per mile.

Joshua Morphew of the Hellgate Road Runners ran 34:50 to take 453rd place overall—ahead of 5,052 other runners.

The winner of the 80-and-over age group was Jack Haar of the Millrose Athletic Association. He ran 1:03:23…

…which put him only 39 seconds ahead of Chauncey Leake, Jr., who was second in the 80+ division in a time of 1:04:02.

The age-groups don’t go high enough for Abe Weintraub, believed to be the oldest finisher in NYRR race history. He finished in 2 hours and 8 minutes…at age 98.
