2008 NYRR Team Championships - Women's Gallery

	Saturday, August 16, was a great day in Central Park for the NYRR Team Championships, an annual contest among hundreds of runners and scores of teams in the NYC-metro area. Runners compete out of pure love of the sport and for area-wide bragging rights. Afterward, everyone cheers for their fellow finishers and enjoys a festive morning of picnicking and shared pride. The women’s race started an hour after the men’s contest.	The large lead pack represented many different teams.	Muluye Lemma Gurmu, Buzunesh Deba, and Aziza Aliyu (l-r).	Aliyu, of the Westchester Track Club (WTC), made her move…
…and held on to win in 27:18.	Teammate Deba was second in 27:20.	Gurmu took third in 27:22.	Mariam Sebeledet placed fourth in 27:35.
Etafarahu Tarekegn was fifth (27:47).	The New York Athletic Club’s (NYAC) Lesley Higgins was sixth…	…and teammate Caroline Bierbaum placed seventh.	Katarina Janosikova of Running Divas New York took eighth.
NYAC’s Michelle Rafferty was ninth.	Aileen Conlon of CPTC rounded out the top 10.	Sara Vergote, CPTC, placed 11th in 29:05.	Maria Alves Viera, West Side Runners (WSX): 29:12 for 12th.
For some runners, older means faster, and the Team Champs race is added motivation.
WTC’s Grace Behrens was the top masters finisher.	Emmy Stocker, Taconic Road Runners, placed second age 50+.	Susan Siderman was the third age 60-69 finisher.	Billie Moten, 71, of Warren Street: 55:49.
Suzanne Wirtz of RDNY ran 34:32.	Elisabeth Law-Wai Gregory, New York Flyers: 48:58.	The Reservoir Dogs’ Laura Dwork: 36:57.	Hellgate Road Runners members finished strong.
Helen Dowling of the Hoboken Harriers: 37:13.	Urban Athletics’ Michele Cameron clocked 38-flat.	Kerstin Marx of Front Runners New York: 38:29.	Mary Spera of Millrose was timed in 51:26.
