NYRR Half-Marathon Grand Prix Presented by Continental Airlines: Queens

[Results]
The NYRR Half-Marathon Grand Prix Presented by Continental Airlines: Queens was the fourth race in the year-long Grand Prix series, which welcomes runners to tour the five boroughs via scenic, history-rich courses over the popular half-marathon distance. The series will conclude on Staten Island on October 12.

More than 3,000 tough runners took on the half-marathon distance on a hot day with 87% humidity.

The course included two six-mile loops through Queens neighborhoods.

The start and finish were flat, but there were rolling hills out on the loop.

Elvis seems to have jumped into the race; he chased Carol Farrell (left) and Stephanie Spangler.

Cinthya Sandoval of Woodside, Queens, was relaxed enough to flash a peace sign.

Holter Graham represented Team for Kids. He finished in 1:36:20.

This runner’s Jamaican-flag shorts might indicate Usain Bolt-like finishing speed.

Some people just laugh at hot, humid weather.

The runners paced themselves carefully for 13 miles…

…and then sprinted for the line in the last tenth of a mile.

After running 13.1 miles, these guys still had the energy to cheer for more finishers.

The finish is picturesque: along the river at College Point.

Phillip Sneller won the men’s race by more than two minutes in 1:13:26.

Sheila Casey was similarly dominating: Her 1:24:32 put her 2:55 ahead of the second woman.

What’s the perfect antidote to 87-percent humidity? 100-percent humidity!

Friends, food, really wet clothes…runners toasted their achievement.

“I’ll have one of everything, please…” Post-race refreshments were much appreciated.

These NYPD runners looked amazingly unexhausted after a long, hot race.

Domenico Fiorello probably does a bit of extra daily running to keep track of these two.

Michelle Lee, Jenny Chung, and So Rim Kim may have reflected as much sunlight with their smiles as with their hats.s
