[Norway Run Results] [Grete's Great Gallop Results]
Distance runners train hard in the hope that they’ll have a race like this year’s Grete’s Great Gallop to test their fitness. The cool, crisp weather conditions were perfect for fast half-marathon racing in Central Park, and the inclusion of this race in the NYRR team-points series made for some inspiring competition. It was a PR day for many—appropriate for a race that honors the amazing Grete Waitz, nine-time New York City Marathon champion.

These three West Side Runners (WSX) athletes seemed comfortable at 5:12-per-mile pace. Tesfaye Girma (#556) won in 1:08:20…

…a fraction of a second ahead of Dereje Hailegiorgis (#566), who also ran 1:08:20…

…and only one second ahead of Teklu Deneke, who finished third in 1:08:21. WSX were men’s overall champions.

Michael Cassidy of the Greater New York Racing Team was fourth in 1:10:01.

Elmustafa McHkirate of WSX was sixth in 1:10:26.

Kent Edens, 45, of the Hoboken Harriers ran a strong 1:21:47.

Brian Hsia of the New York Flyers flew national colors on the way to a 1:30:59.

Erick Fernandez of the Van Cortlandt Track Club (VCTC) finished in 1:41:58.

Paul Thomson, 42, won the masters division with a masterful 1:10:07—good for fifth overall as well. His Warren Street (WS) team won the men’s 40+ division.

Alan Ruben, 51, of the Nike Central Park Track Club (CPTC) led his 50+ division in 1:18:04—and led his 50+ team to the title.

Julio Aguirre, 62, of GNY won the 60-64 division by over 3½ minutes with his 1:27:10.

Ramon Vinaya, 68, of VCTC was working hard for 2 hours, 15 minutes, and 58 seconds.

Caroline Bierbaum of the New York Athletic Club (NYAC) got a double victory: She won the race in 1:16:49, and NYAC took the women’s open team title.

CPTC’s Jill Vollweiler, 40, took second overall in 1:18:57 and was top master by more than six minutes.

Abbi Gleeson of NYAC was third overall in 1:19:51…

…just ahead of her teammate Jamie Sutherland, fourth overall in 1:19:58…

…who was closely followed by their teammate Arianne Field, fifth overall in 1:20:35.

Ana Johnson was eighth overall in 1:22:27. She is a member of Running Divas New York.

Lucia Muntean of Front Runners New York looks pleased with her 1:37:12 performance.

Judith Som, 66, of the Mercury Masters was fourth in her age group.

Lisa Swain of the North Jersey Masters and Team for Kids was second in her 50-54 division (1:35:53).

CPTC’s Deborah Barchat won the 60-64 division by a seven-minute margin with her 1:43:13.
