Two runners prepare for the 13.1-mile race with a stretch beside the Atlantic Ocean.

Brooklyn welcomes more than 5,800 runners who take off at the start of the NYRR Half-Marathon Grand Prix presented by Continental Airlines: Brooklyn, the third race in the five-borough series.


The course affords the best views of Coney Island landmarks, such as the Parachute Jump shown here in the distance.

Spectators are here to cheer on friends and loved ones, so they’ll save the soda and snacks for later.


It’s hard to look straight ahead, with such great views, but runners push on to reach the finish line in Prospect Park.


The Cyclone bids the runners goodbye on Surf Avenue as they leave Coney Island and speed toward Ocean Parkway.


These half-marathoners support one another with encouraging words through Prospect Park.

Darren Edwards, 18, crossed the finish line in 2:06:32.


Katice Helinski, 27, got swept up in the spirit of the day and finished in 1:49:00.


Run NYC member Chantel Antonetti, 30, enjoyed the last 4.2 miles under the trees in Prospect Park.


New Yorker Reuthanak Tap, 27, reminded us that this race is fun.

Lindsay Patterson, 22, of Aspen, CO, concentrates on the path ahead to the finish line.


This JackRabbit Sports fan pulled out the bells and whistles for the runners.


The New York Athletic Club’s John Henwood earned top honors by breaking the tape in 1:08:37.


Sara Vergote of the Nike Central Park Track Club was victorious in 1:20:19.

Post-race celebrations included congratulating friends on a beautiful day in Brooklyn.
