Just about every runner has had or will experience back pain. Unfortunately, there are few quick and easy diagnoses, as there are many back muscles, ligaments, nerves, and discs that can be strained, compressed, or otherwise compromised. Understanding anatomy and common ailments, and incorporating preventive measures, can help runners reduce the risk of common back injuries (or even prevent them) and recover from back pain when it does occur.
