Training
Will this class help me if I have never run a marathon or trained for one before?
Yes. The class does not require any previous marathon training experience. This unique training program will improve your running economy, form, muscular strength, power, and endurance, teach you proper marathon pacing, and much more. The class is designed to allow you to finish your first marathon with confidence or improve on your best time while have fun training with others runners who have goals similar to yours. 

 

How is this training program structured?
There is one speed-training session each week. Depending on your level, classes include steady-paced runs, speed training, intervals, hills, fartlek, and tempo runs. You will have the flexibility to choose either a Tuesday or Thursday class.

 

Another program component is a run of four to six or more miles each week, on Wednesdays, to help build endurance. This class begins with a Q&A session followed by a lecture on marathon training by Coach Shelly Glover and Coach Bob Glover.


You’ll do a variety of coached workouts during both sessions while enjoying the fellowship and safety of group running.

 

Can I sign up for an extra session of the speed training class?
Yes, you can sign up to take both the Tuesday and Thursday sessions of the NYRR’s Running Classes (speed-training) for an additional discounted fee. Please contact the Coach Bob Glover at class to register.

 

Merchandise

When will I receive my merchandise?
Merchandise will be available for pickup during the second week of the Wednesday class. Coach Bob Glover and Coach Shelly Glover will autograph your copy of The Runner's Handbook or The Competitive Runner’s Handbook.

 

Refunds

Will I receive a full refund if I have paid for the Tuesday or Thursday Speed Session(s)?
Runners who have registered for the NYRR Running Class session that begins May25 or 27 (session 161) and purchased the Buildup to the ING New York City Marathon Training Package will be eligible to receive a full refund for that payment. Please e-mail classes@nyrr.org to request the refund.

Runners who have registered for the NYRR Running Class session that begins August 3 or 5 (session 162) and/or October 12 or 14 (session 163) will be eligible to receive a full refund for that payment when they register for the Countdown to the ING New York City Marathon Training Package. Please e-mail classes@nyrr.org to request the refund.
