NYRR's Marathon Training Packages

 

Choose the Right Level for You
For the Speed Session on either Tuesday or Thursday nights, please choose the race pace level that best represents your running ability.

We will group you on-site according to your training pace.

Runners of all levels meet at the same time on Wednesday nights, arriving at 6:15 p.m. for the lecture and Q&A, or by 6:45 p.m. for the run.


LEVEL 2
Basic Intermediate

Tuesday or Thursday,  6:15 p.m.

Requirement:
Can run for 5K-4 miles nonstop
Race pace slower than 11 minutes per mile

LEVEL 3
Intermediate

Tuesday or Thursday,  6:30 p.m.

Requirement:
Race pace for 5K/4 miles of 10 to 11 minutes per mile

LEVEL 4
Advanced Intermediate

Tuesday or Thursday,
6:30 p. m.

Requirement:
Race pace for 5K/4 miles of 9 to 10 minutes per mile

LEVEL 5
Basic Competitive

Tuesday or Thursday,
6:45 p.m.

Requirement:
Race pace for 5K/4 miles of 8 to 9 minutes per mile

LEVEL 6
Competitive

Tuesday or Thursday,
6:45 p.m.

Requirement:
Race pace for 5K/4 miles of 7 to 8 minutes per mile

LEVEL 7
Advanced Competitive

Tuesday or Thursday,
6:45 p.m.

Requirement:
Race pace for 5K/4 miles of 6 to 7 minutes per mile

LEVEL 8
Super Advanced Competitive

Tuesday or Thursday,
6:45 p.m.

Requirement:
Race pace for 5K/4 miles of faster than 6 minutes per mile

 

2010 Dates and Times

 

Buildup to the ING New York City Marathon (10 weeks)

One session per week of NYRR’s Running Classes (speed-training). Start time is according to your level (see above).

  • Tuesday starts 5/25; ends 7/27
  • Thursday starts 5/27; ends 7/29

One Wednesday lecture, a Q&A session, and a group endurance training run of four to six or more miles.Lecture/Q&A starts at 6:15 p.m.; run starts at 6:45 p.m.

  • Wednesday starts 5/26; ends 7/28


Countdown to the ING New York City Marathon (15 weeks)

One session per week of NYRR’s Running Classes (speed-training) for 20 weeks. Start time is according to your level (see above).

  • Tuesday starts 8/3; ends 12/14
  • Thursday starts 8/5; ends 12/16

One Wednesday lecture, a Q&A session, and a group endurance training run of four to six or more miles for 15 weeks. Lecture/Q&A starts at 6:15 p.m.; run starts at 6:45 p.m.

  • Wednesday starts 8/4; ends 11/10

Location
All sessions meet at P.S. 6, located on East 81st Street between Park and Madison Avenues, and then go outdoors for workouts (usually in nearby Central Park).

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and close at 8:30 p.m.

Please enter using the middle door on East 81st Street. Lectures are in the air-conditioned auditorium.

 

What to Wear/What to Bring
Come dressed to run. There is limited space for changing. Clothing and valuables may be stored in a monitored area. Please do not bring headphones or strollers.

 

Structure
All sessions meet in all weather conditions for approximately 75-90 minutes and provide a complete workout, including running. All sessions are sorted into groups according to ability level.

Please run with the appropriate group; you will be asked to switch groups if you are a different speed than the group. Students are expected to follow all safety and administrative guidelines established by the program directors. Participants must be at least 18 years old, unless permission is granted in advance by Bob Glover. There are no guests or trial classes.

 

You may only attend the nights for which you register.


There are no confirmations; you will be notified only if you are NOT accepted.


NYRR, the class instructors, and hosting venues are not responsible for your personal items.
