Training
Will this class help me if I have never run a marathon or trained for one before?
Yes. The class does not require any previous marathon training experience. This unique training program will improve your running economy, form, muscular strength, power, and endurance, teach you proper marathon pacing, and much more. The class is designed to allow you to finish your first marathon with confidence or improve on your best time while have fun training with others runners who have goals similar to yours.
How is this training program structured?
There is one speed-training session each week for 14 weeks, with six bonus classes. Depending on your level, classes include steady-paced runs, speed training, intervals, hills, fartlek, and tempo runs. You will have the flexibility to choose either a Tuesday or Thursday class.
Another program component is a run of four to six or more miles each week, on Wednesdays, for 14 weeks to help build endurance. This class begins with a Q&A session followed by a lecture on marathon training by Coach Shelly Glover and Coach Bob Glover.
You’ll do a variety of coached workouts during both sessions while enjoying the fellowship and safety of group running.
Can I sign up for an extra session of the speed training class?
Yes, you can sign up to take both the Tuesday and Thursday sessions of the NYRR’s Running Classes (speed-training) for an additional fee. Please contact the Coach Bob Glover during your first session of the class to sign up.
Merchandise
When will I receive my class merchandise?
We will ship your ING New York City Marathon 2009 ASICS technical training shirt and hat via UPS approximately two weeks after the start of the first class. If you have purchased the premium package, your Timex ING New York City Marathon watch will be shipped together with the training shirt and hat. Coach Bob Glover and Coach Shelly Glover will autograph your copy of The Competitive Runner’s Handbook starting at the Wednesday session of the second week.
Refunds
Will I receive a full refund if I have paid for Speed Session 157 and/or 158?
Yes, you are eligible for a full refund for that payment if you had already registered and paid for either or both sessions of Speed Session 157 and/or 158. Please e-mail us at classes@nyrr.org to request a refund.
Will I receive a full refund if I had paid for the ING New York City Marathon Tune-Up or the NYRR Half-Marathon Grand Prix Presented by Continental Airlines: Staten Island?
Yes, you are eligible for a full refund for that payment if you have already registered and paid for the ING New York City Marathon Tune-Up and/or the NYRR Half-Marathon Grand Prix Presented by Continental Airlines: Staten Island. Note: You must be registered for the NYRR Marathon Training Premium Package to qualify for this refund. Please e-mail classes@nyrr.org to request a refund.
