NYRR Marathon Training Package

New for 2008, NYRR's Marathon Training Package is designed to help runners at all levels prepare for the ING New York City Marathon or another fall marathon. Directed by longtime NYRR Running Classes program directors Bob and Shelley Glover and staffed by a team of expert coaches, the package is a full-spectrum program that will support any runner’s effort to prepare for and complete a marathon. No previous marathon training experience is required.

The 14-week package includes the following:

 

• One NYRR Running Class speed-training session per week (choice of Tuesday or Thursday evening*; August 5 or 7 through October 7 or 9)
• One lecture, Q&A session, and 4- to 6-mile group training run per week, with the option of a longer run (14 Wednesday evenings, August 6 through November 5)
• One entry to each of the ING New York City Marathon Long Training Runs (Saturdays, August 2 and September 13)
• One ING New York City Marathon 2008 technical training shirt

• Bonus: One free Running Speed Session (10 weeks) which starts on October 14 or October 16**

*There will be no switching between Tuesday and Thursday class sessions.

 

** As a special bonus, all registered participants of NYRR’s Marathon Training Package may also register, free of charge, for the NYRR Running Class 10-week session that begins October 14 or October 16. We will contact you with registration information about this NYRR Running Class session.

Program Directors

Classes are led by experienced group coaches trained and supervised by head coaches Bob and Shelly Glover. Coaches are available to answer individual questions before, during, and after classes.
Founder and director of NYRR’s Running Class program (started in 1978), Coach Bob Glover has taught thousands of runners of all levels, helping many go from beginners to ING New York City Marathon finishers. Shelly Glover, MA, is an exercise physiologist. Bob is a veteran of 35 marathons and often places in NYRR races in the 60-64 age category, while Shelly often places in the 45-49 category. Bob and Shelly are co-authors of several national best-sellers, including The Runner’s Handbook and The Competitive Runner’s Handbook. Together they coach the Greater New York Racing Team.
