Seeded Corrals
Starting at the adidas Run for the Parks on April 20, 2008, all NYRR races will feature seeded start corrals. Seeded corrals will ease congestion at the start of races and allow runners to remain within the designated running lanes during NYRR events in Central Park. The result will be a more enjoyable experience for all race participants. Here’s what you need to know about seeded corrals:
Runners will be lined up in corrals of 500-750 behind the start line. Runners will be assigned to corrals according to their per-mile pace with faster runners in the front and slower runners in the rear. Each corral will have a color code that corresponds to the color on the runners' race number (bib) and pace.
NYRR will assign entrants to corrals in advance of each race. NYRR-member entrants with an NYRR race history will be assigned based on that history at the time that they registered for the race. Non-member entrants and entrants without an NYRR race history will be assigned based on the estimated pace per mile that they provide on their race application.
Runners signing up in person during number pickup must bring proof of their pace per mile or they will be assigned to the last corral. A recent copy of a runner's NYRR race history, race certificate, or results page showing time and pace will be accepted.
Once a corral is assigned, it cannot be changed. Runners wishing to run together must go to the corral of the slower runner. Runners arriving late (less than 10 minutes before start time) to their corral must go to the last corral.
Your official race time begins when you cross the starting line. Each runner’s official race time will be his or her net time—that is, beginning when the runner’s ChampionChip crosses the timing mats at the start and ending when the chip crosses the mats at the finish.
Race results will be available on race day. All race results will be printed, posted, and available after the time allotted for the race distance (for example, three hours for a half-marathon). At this point, event staff will make the awards available for distribution on site (or at NYRR the following day).
Important note: Seeded corrals help ensure that official entrants in NYRR races stay within the designated running lanes throughout the race, according to City of New York Parks & Recreation rules and NYRR rules. The official course will be fully delineated and runners will be required to run inside the delineated lane. All runners must wear a race number, and that race number must be visible. Failure to do so may result in disqualification. Seeded corrals are a new process for our weekly races, and we will collect data and modify these processes as needed to work best at all our events. We request that all runners work with NYRR and our volunteers to ensure smooth operation of this new process.
