Individual Awards

At scored races, awards are presented to the top finishers in each age group and are based on official net times. Participants must be at least 12 years old to be eligible for awards.

Awards are generally presented after the race at the awards ceremony. Winners who are unable to claim their awards at this ceremony should contact New York Road Runners' reception desk at 212.423.2236 to arrange pick-up. Awards are recycled after 30 days.

Runner of the Year Awards

NYRR presents awards for Runner of the Year (age group and overall), club championships winners, and other special categories annually at NYRR Club Night. The Awards Committee is comprised of NYRR staff and Board of Directors members and team representatives from the local running community.

Eligibility
In order to be eligible for NYRR Runner of the Year awards, runners must meet the following criteria:

Membership: Runners must be a member of NYRR for at least six months of the calendar year, including at the time of nomination.
Qualifying races: Within the calendar year, runners must complete at least six fully scored NYRR races across a range of distances. Track races scored by NYRR are not included.
Age group: A runner who changes age groups during the year will be considered for nomination in the age group in which he or she belonged for the majority of the year.

Selection Process
For each age category, Runner of the Year candidates are ranked based on their best performances for the year. These rankings, through the top 20 in each age group, are reviewed by the Awards Committee with special consideration made for head-to-head competition and performances at a range of distances. In addition, the overall Runner of the Year Awards (named in honor of Fred Lebow) are given to the male and female runners who have exhibited the most consistently superior performances over a variety of races and distances.
