The NYC Half-Marathon Presented by NIKE was a huge success in its second year in 2007. Haile Gebreselassie won in dominating fashion as more than 10,000 people completed the race. This year, the event is expected to draw an even larger field and will return many of the top professionals to the famed streets of NYC. [NYC Half-Marathon]

The fourth running of the first-ever marathon (26.2 miles) for women over age 40 takes place in early spring in Central Park. The event also includes a half-marathon (13.1 miles) for two-woman teams with at least one team member over 40. More than 3,500 women took part in the event last year, which is sponsored by More Magazine, a lifestyle publication for women in their 40s and 50s. [Race Info]
Healthy Kidney 10K

New York Road Runners hosts this race for the fourth time in 2008. Sponsored by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, GE, and Lockheed Martin, with proceeds benefiting the National Kidney Foundation, the race features a small field of professional international male runners in addition to the thousands of entrants taking part to support the fight against kidney disease.

The original women-only road race, this event has celebrated women's fitness and athletic achievement for 34 years and draws a field of thousands, including the world's top female distance runners.
Continental Airlines Fifth Avenue Mile

For 27 years, New York Road Runners has been bringing athletes to Manhattan's Fifth Avenue to burn up 5,280 feet of pavement along this famous thoroughfare. Last year's Continental Airlines Fifth Avenue Mile welcomed professional men's and women's fields along with 11 heats for open runners and a wheelchair/hand cycle race.

NYRR's premier event and one of the world's most prestigious road races, the ING New York City Marathon takes place annually on the first Sunday in November. The race features more than 40,000 participants including the world's best distance runners, a course through all five boroughs of New York City, more than two million spectators, and 12,000 volunteers.
