Entertainment
The FADES have wowed crowds throughout New York City and beyond with their highenergy
sets and fun-loving stage act dedicated to recreating the ’80s tunes that defined the
decade. Their sets range across all genres of ’80s music, including songs like 99 Luftballons,
Back in Black, Don’t Stop Believin’, Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Under Pressure, Walk Like An
Egyptian and many more. The band’s members have played some of NYC’s best-known
venues including the Metropolitan Club, The Plaza Hotel, Steiner Studios, Central Park, CBGB
and The Bitter End, and have shared the stage and recorded with music legends such as The
Strokes, Bunny and the Wailers, Eek-A-Mouse, Bruce Witkin of Adam’s Ants and Coz Canler of
’80s icon The Romantics.
But the FADES are not only rockers—they’re runners too!
• Five of six band members are marathoners and active members of NYRR and the New
York Harriers, a local competitive running club.
• The five FADES runners are all registered to run the 2010 ING New York City Marathon.
• Morgan Thompson is one of the top runners in New York City’s highly competitive
racing scene. Morgan is a national class runner with a marathon time of 2:37. In 2009,
he was one of just seven nominees for NYRR Run ner of the Year in his age group.
Kevin Horty is coach of the New York Harriers run ning club and has a marathon
personal best of 2:41.
• Karla Bruning, Cindy Gordon and Tristan Springmeyer are also avid runners. The 2010
ING New York City Marathon will be Karla’s fourth, and Cindy and Tristan’s second
marathon.
• Carsten Vogel is not a runner (yet!) but was a member of The Howling Moondogs, who
broke the world record for the longest rock and roll performance, lasting 42 hours. Now
that’s a marathon!
• Karla Bruning writes a column about running called, “Run, Karla, Run!” that appears on
The Washington Times Communities and RunKarlaRun.com.
Morgan Thompson and Kevin Horty will be running the 5-mile Annual Father’s Day Race
Against Prostate Cancer on June 20, which starts at 8:30 AM. They expect to finish the race
in less than 30 minutes, and they will run (literally!) from the finish line to the bandstand
to join the FADES in providing post-race entertainment. If there was a world record for
fastest band, the FADES just might have it!
