Run for Central Park / Kids' Races - Saturday, July 18 / 4M • 9:00 a.m., Kids Races • 10:00 a.m. / Central Park, New York / S, Q, C, + (M/W)

This four-mile run/walk, for runners of all ages and fitness levels, is presented in partnership with the Central Park Conservancy. CPC works to restore, manage and enhance Central Park. NYRR and CPC are joining forces to make this the greenest race of 2009. All the awards, including for the kids' races, will be earth-friendly, and CPC will also plant flowers throughout the Park in honor of each race winner.  Thus the race will have a lasting, healthy effect on the environment.

Course

All courses are subject to change. Check back here the day before the race for final confirmation.

Start on Central Park's East Drive near 68th Street. Head north on East Drive and continue to the 102nd Street Transverse. Turn left/west across the transverse and then left/south on West Drive. Continue south to the 72nd Street Transverse, turning left/east to the finish line.

Number Pickup/Registration

Entrants are required to pick up their numbers, scoring chips, and race souvenirs at New York Road Runners (9 East 89th Street) on:

• Thursday, July 16, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
• Friday, July 17, 1:00-7:00 p.m.

On race day, Saturday, July 18, entrants may pick up their materials in Central Park at the registration tent in the Bandshell, starting at 7:45 a.m.

Kids Races (ages 2-12)

10:00 a.m.
Start and Finish: 72nd Street Tranverse. Distances range from 25 yards to 1/2 mile (depending on participant's age).
Awards: All participants will receive a souvenir shirt and  special earth-friendly ribbon.

Race Scoring

This is a scored race that counts toward the nine races NYRR members as of January 2009 need to be eligible for guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon 2010. The race is timed using the ChampionChip® system. You must complete the race with your chip attached to your shoe or your time will not be recorded. Please follow the instructions in your race packet on attaching the chip to your shoe and then returning the chip following the race. Note that you will be charged $35 if you do not return the chip within 20 days.

Baggage Facilities

Free baggage facilities will be provided as a convenience. If you are planning to use this baggage service, bring an inexpensive bag and leave your valuables at home. New York Road Runners is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Rules of Competition

All NYRR races are organized and directed under USA Track & Field rules and regulations. Entrants must also comply with City of New York, Parks & Recreation and NYRR rules. Failure to do so may result in offenders being disqualified and possibly banned from NYRR events, including the ING New York City Marathon. [Click here for rules.]
