NYRR Gridiron Classic (4M)/ Longest Football Throw Competition - Sunday, February 1 / Football Throw Competition: 8:00 a.m., 4M: 9:00 a.m. / Central Park, New York /S, Q, C

Please note: Registration for the NYRR Gridiron Classic on Super Bowl Sunday, February 1, is nearing capacity. Like most 2009 NYRR races in Central Park, this event is capped at 5,000 runners. Start off your Superbowl Sunday by trying out your arm in our annual football toss. And before you head home to park yourself in front of the TV for the big game, go for a touchdown of your own by running a quick 4 miles.

Course

All courses are subject to change. Check back here the day before the race for final confirmation.

Start on Central Park’s East Drive just south of 72nd Street and head north. Turn left/west onto the 102nd Street Transverse and then left/south on West Drive. Continue to the finish on West Drive just north of Tavern on the Green. [Map]

Number Pickup /Registration Info

Entrants are required to pick up their numbers, scoring chips, and race souvenirs at New York Road Runners (9 East 89th Street) on:

· Thursday, January 29, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
· Friday, January 30, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
· Saturday, January 31, 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
· Sunday, February 1, 7:30-8:30 a.m.

On race day, t-shirts (ONLY) will be distributed in Central Park near the start from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Shirts will not be available after the race. Number pickup/registration will not take place in Central Park.

Post-Race

Fruit and bagels will be distributed on site after the race. Awards will be given in all applicable NYRR age categories and can be collected at NYRR beginning on Tuesday, February 3. [Awards breakdown]

Race Scoring

This is a scored race that counts toward the nine races NYRR members as of January 2009 need to be eligible for guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon 2010. The race is timed using the ChampionChip® system. You must complete the race with your chip attached to your shoe or your time will not be recorded. Please follow the instructions in your race packet on attaching the chip to your shoe and then returning the chip following the race. Note that you will be charged $35 if you do not return the chip within 20 days.

Baggage Facilities

Free baggage facilities will be provided as a convenience. If you are planning to use this baggage service, bring an inexpensive bag and leave your valuables at home. New York Road Runners is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Rules of Competition

All NYRR races are organized and directed under USA Track & Field rules and regulations. Entrants must also comply with City of New York, Parks & Recreation and NYRR rules. Failure to do so may result in offenders being disqualified and possibly banned from NYRR events, including the ING New York City Marathon. [Click here for rules.]
