ING New York City Marathon Tune-Up - Sunday, September 28 / 18M • 7:00 a.m. / S Q

Just a little over one month left until more than 38,000 runners line up at the ING New York City Marathon start in Fort Wadsworth! The Tune-Up in Central Park provides 18 miles of motivation and camaraderie to carry you through the challenging preparation phase.

Course

All courses are subject to change. Check back here the day before the race for final confirmation.

Start on Central Park’s East Drive at 102nd Street and head north. Complete three counterclockwise loops of the park. On the third and final lap, turn left/west onto the 102nd Street Transverse to the finish just west of East Drive. [Course Map]

Time Limit

Participants will be timed up to four hours. After that time, medical facilities and refreshments will not be available and finishing times will not count toward earning guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon 2009.

Note: Participants must be at least 12 years old on race day.

Number Pickup /Registration

Entrants are required to pick up their numbers and scoring chips in advance. Materials may be picked up at NYRR, 9 East 89th Street, on:

• Thursday, September 25, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
• Friday, September 26, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
• Saturday, September 27, 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Race day registration at NYRR (9 East 89th Street, New York City) on:

• Sunday, September 28, 5:45-6:45 a.m.

Due to the popularity of this race, we strongly encourage you to register and check in prior to race day. No numbers or chips will be given out after 6:45 a.m. on race day.

On race day, t-shirts (ONLY) will be distributed in Central Park near the start from 6: 00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. only. Please pick up your shirt prior to the event. Shirts will not be available after the race.

PowerBar® Gel will ONLY be distributed on the course at Mile 9 and 15.

Post Race

Race Scoring

This is a scored race that counts toward the nine races NYRR members as of January 2007 need to be eligible for guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon 2008. The race is timed using the ChampionChip® system. You must complete the race with your chip attached to your shoe or your time will not be recorded. Please follow the instructions in your race packet on attaching the chip to your shoe and then returning the chip following the race. Note that you will be charged $35 if you do not return the chip within 20 days.

Baggage Facilities

Free baggage facilities will be provided as a convenience. If using this baggage service, bring an inexpensive bag and leave your valuables at home. New York Road Runners is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Rules of Competition

All NYRR races are organized and directed under USA Track & Field rules and regulations. Entrants must also comply with City of New York, Parks & Recreation and NYRR rules. Failure to do so may result in offenders being disqualified and possibly banned from NYRR events, including the ING New York City Marathon. [Click here for rules.]
