HARLEM: Health Walk-A-Thon - Saturday, August 23 / 2-Mile Walk (for adults and kids) / 9:00 a.m. / Harlem / Q

Join thousands of your friends and neighbors to help raise money to support Harlem's Healthy Eating and Living Initiative (HEAL).

Please note that this event is a 2-Mile Walk. No running will be permitted.

ING New York City Marathon qualifier credit for the HARLEM: Health Walk-A-Thon will be given to NYRR members who register and participate in the event. NYRR staff will collect race numbers (bibs) at the completion of the 2-mile walk to ensure proper crediting.

Course

Start: Morningside Park (Near 116th Street and Morningside Avenue, heading north)
Finish: Jackie Robinson Park (Near Bradhurst Avenue and 149th Street)

This is historical walk of Harlem, which will highlight three important parks and other key Harlem sites. The course begins at Morningside Park, near 116th Street and Morningside Avenue heading north to 126th Street – where walkers will make a right turn to St. Nicholas Avenue. At St. Nicholas Avenue, walkers will turn left and continue along side of St. Nicholas Park to 141st Street. After making a right onto 141st Street, walkers will proceed to Edgecombe Avenue/Bradhurst Avenue. Make the left onto Bradhurst Avenue and proceed north to the finish at Jackie Robinson Park. Actual finish line will be at 149th Street, with walkers continuing up to 150th Street and entering Jackie Robinson Park for post-walk amenities.

• Thursday, August 21, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
• Friday, August 22, 1:00-7:00 p.m.

 Applebee's, 205 West 50th Street (at Broadway), or Commerce Bank, 300 West 125th Street (at Frederick Douglass Blvd.) or Commerce Bank  2831 Broadway (at 109th Street)  

Saturday August 23rd   7:00 to 8:30 am  in Morningside Park (at 114th Street and Morningside Avenue)

Rules of Participation

Entrants must comply with the following rules:

• For the safety of all participants and to satisfy insurance requirements, no skates or animals are permitted in this event.
• Please use the toilet facilities provided.
• Participant numbers must be fully visible at all times, preferably worn on the front of the shirt or singlet.
• The use of headphones and earphones is strongly discouraged.

Event Activities

Celebrate historic Harlem and HHL along with elected, government, and university representatives in the parks along the course. Activities include free health screenings, career opportunities, and entertainment in Morningside Park, St. Nicholas Park, and Jackie Robinson Park.
