Hope & Possibility 5M - Sunday, June 22 / 5M • 8:20 a.m. (Wheelers Start), 8:30 a.m. (Regular Start), 10:30 a.m. (Kids Fun Run) / Central Park, New York / S

Presented by the Achilles Track Club, this event brings together athletes with disabilities and able-bodied athletes in a celebration of running. Cash prizes, raffles, free t-shirts and shoes for kids, and more give promise of a great day in the park.

Please note that this race is not a marathon qualifier.

Course


All courses are subject to change. Check back here the day before the race for final confirmation.

 

Start on Central Park’s West Drive at 67th Street, near of Tavern on the Green. Head South on West Drive and continue around the southern end of the Park. Continue North on East Drive, turn West/Left onto the 102nd Street Transverse, then South/Left onto West Drive to finish at 69th Street.

Number Pickup/Registration

 


Entrants may pick up their numbers, scoring chips, and race souvenirs at New York Road Runners (9 East 89th Street) on:


• Thursday, June 19, 3:00 - 7:00 p.m.
• Friday, June 20, 3:00 - 7:00 p.m.
• Saturday, June 21, 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.


On race day, Sunday, June 22, entrants may pick up their materials in Central Park at the registration tent on Center Road, near West Drive and 67th Street, from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m.


Post-Race


Please join us for music, fun, and disability awareness activities. Award ceremony and raffle begin about 11:00 a.m. $6,000 in prize money will be awarded to the top male and female finishers in the following categories: open, visually impaired, above-knee amputatee, below-knee amputee, ambulatory disabled, pushrim, and handcrank wheelchair. At least seven participants need to finish in any category for prize money to be awarded. Final confirmation of top winners will be made by NYRR and ATC. Race Scoring

This is a scored race but DOES NOT count toward the nine races NYRR members as of January 2008 need to be eligible for guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon 2009. The race is timed using the ChampionChip® system. You must complete the race with your chip attached to your shoe or your time will not be recorded. Please follow the instructions in your race packet on attaching the chip to your shoe and then returning the chip following the race. Note that you will be charged $35 if you do not return the chip within 20 days.

Baggage Facilities

Free baggage facilities will be provided as a convenience. If using this baggage service, bring an inexpensive bag and leave your valuables at home. New York Road Runners and Achilles Track Club are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Rules of Competition

All NYRR races are organized and directed under USA Track & Field rules and regulations. Entrants must also comply with City of New York, Parks & Recreation and NYRR rules.
