One of the biggest fields of the year—more than 6,000 registered last year—is drawn to the challenging hills of Manhattan's Central Park for the first half-marathon of 2008. With a new Half-Marathon Grand Prix sponsor in Continental Airlines, the first race of the series makes for a bracing start to the new year.
Baggage Update: Baggage Check will be located at Engineer's Gate-90th Street and Fifth Avenue until 8:00 a.m. Baggage Pickup will be near the finish on the 102nd Street Transverse. Runners checking bags after 8:00 a.m. will be directed to the finish line. If using this baggage service, bring a single, inexpensive bag and leave your valuables at home. New York Road Runners is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Course
All courses are subject to change. Check back here the day before the race for final confirmation.
The race will start on the East Drive at 84th Street. Runners will head north and complete 2 loops of the outer loop of the park. On the
second lap, runners will turn onto the 102nd St Transverse and finish.

Number Pickup/Registration
Entrants are required to pick up their numbers, scoring chips, and race souvenirs at New York Road Runners (9 East 89th Street) on:
· Thursday, January 24, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
· Friday, January 25, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
· Saturday, January 26, 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
· Sunday, January 27, 7:00 a.m.-8:00 a.m.
If picking up on event day, be sure to allow yourself enough time to get from NYRR to the start . Race souvenirs may also be picked up after the race at NYRR while supplies last. Number pickup/registration and race souvenir pickup will not take place in Central Park.
Note: Participants must be at least 12 years old.
Time Limit
Participants will be timed up to three hours. After that time, medical facilities and refreshments will not be available. Members who finish after three hours can receive credit toward qualifying for guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon 2009 but will not have a time listed in the race results; e-mail results@nyrr.org to get credit for the race.
Post-Race
Awards will be given in all applicable NYRR age categories and can be collected at NYRR beginning on Tuesday, January 29. [Awards breakdown]

Rules of Competition
All NYRR races are organized and directed under USA Track & Field rules and regulations. Entrants must also comply with City of New York, Parks & Recreation and NYRR rules. Failure to do so may result in offenders being disqualified and possibly banned from NYRR events, including the ING New York City Marathon. [Click here for rules.]
