The WABC Father’s Day Fight Against Prostate Cancer 5M started under warm, humid conditions in Central Park.

World-class runner Worku Beyi, 20, of the Westchester Track Club (WTC), averaged 4:37 pace over the hilly 5 miles. He won in 23:07, nearly a minute in front of the next runner.

Deresse Deniboba, 25 (24:01), also of WTC, was the runner-up. WTC dominated the race’s open division with their 1-2-3-4-19 team finish.

The third-place finisher, Genna Tufa, 22, also represents WTC…

…as does Abiyot Endale, 21, who finished fourth. Both runners were timed in 24:18.

Abraha Husufa Asefa, 26, of West Side Runners (WSX), finished fifth in 24:24, leading his team to second place in the open division.

Leteyesus Berhe, 28, a perennial top finisher in NYRR races, was the first female across the line (31:22). She represents WTC.

Forty-year-old Laura DiMarino of the Rockland Road Runners ran an outstanding 31:44 to place second overall and top the masters division.

Elmustafa McHkirate, 26, placed seventh overall in 25:13. An impressive 15 men broke 26:00 in this very competitive race.

Paul Mwangi, 40, of WSX and a former NYRR Fred Lebow Runner of the Year, ran 25:31 to place eighth overall. Visible behind Mwangi is Paul Thompson, 41, of Warren Street Social & Athletic Club (WSSAC), who passed him to place sixth overall (25:13) and to win the masters division.

Edward Gapak, 23, of WSSAC, was ninth in 25:34. He won the NYRR Half-Marathon Grand Prix: Brooklyn in April.

Spirited battles characterized the race at all levels. Steven Vizena, 51, of Front Runners New York, passed Ralph Yozzo, 44, of WSX, to finish ahead, 30:40 to 30:45.

Hector Echeverry, 42, of Clifton Roadrunners, celebrated his 34:56 finish.

Grzegorz Gawel, 36, of College Point Road Runners, was timed in 36:56; Krzysztof Wasielewski, 53, of the Polish Runners Club, finished just ahead in 36:55.

Prostate cancer survivor Thomas Maile, 65, of the Taconic Road Runners Club, finished in 39:28, which placed him fifth in his age group.
