On a cool August morning, the NYRR Team Championships men’s race would be the scene of some hot running. |

The large early pack included many members of the Westchester Track Club (WTC), which had a six-year winning streak coming into this race. |

Predictably, WTC runners moved quickly to the front, setting a punishing pace. |

That’s teamwork: WTC athletes Worku Beyi (#681) and Deniboba Deresse (#686) finished fifth and fourth, respectively; both recorded a time of 23:58. |

WTC’s Abiyot Endale began to pull away from his teammates near the 2-mile mark. |

Endale, 21, who won the NYRR Road Mile Championships at the 2006 Continental Airlines Fifth Avenue Mile… |
…proved with his win today that he can handle longer distances as well, as evidenced by his 23:45 finish.
|

Genna Tufa of WTC finished sixth in 24:10. He placed an impressive 17th (1:05:37) at the NYC Half-Marathon Presented by NIKE on August 5. |
Solomon Too was seventh in 24:20; he completed a top-seven sweep by the WTC open men, who easily won their seventh consecutive team title.
|

Chris Raabe of The Running Company took ninth place in a time of 24:28, leading his team to second place. |
Warren Street Social & Athletic Club’s Brian Dalpiaz rounded out the top 10 with his 24:40 finish.
|

Joseph Ekoum, another outstanding WTC runner, was 11th overall in 24:45. |

A consistent top finisher in NYRR races, Elmustafa McHkirate of West Side Runners (WSX) was 14th today in 24:54. The top 15 men finished in under 25 minutes. |

Mark Dani of the Brooks Manhattan Track Club placed 28th overall with his 25:26 clocking; the team finished third. |

Hector Rivera of the Clifton Road Runners Club, placed 33rd in a time of 25:33. |

Rafael Veras of WSX claimed the 37th finisher spot in a time of 25:54. The top 38 finishers had sub-26:00 times. |

Mark Ryall of the New York Harriers (NYH), finished in 26:15, good for 48th place. |

Lino Castro of WSX, had a 27:25 finishing time. WSX took third in the team standings. |

Antonio Salvador of Los Compadres Team finished in 27:35. |

Warren Street’s David Walsh, 46, ran 30:40, good for 19th place in his age group. |
John Samsel of WTC, the 2006 age 60-64 NYRR Runner of the Year, ran 32:09 today.
|
Ernest Mossiah of NYH recorded a time of 34:05; the team was ninth in the open division.
|

Gerard Chamorin of Team for Kids, adult runners who raise funds in support of NYRR running and character-building programs for children, finished in 38:06. |

Proving that team spirit is for runners of all ages, 63-year-old Frank Wilson of CPTC finished in 37:17. |
