NYRR Kurt Steiner Cross Country 5K - Sunday, October 21 / 5K • 11:30 a.m. / Van Cortlandt Park, New York

The classic race cheer of devoted official Kurt Steiner (1921-1993) still resonates throughout Vanny during his memorial race each October: “If you can hear my voice, you are near the finish!”

Sign in at the Tortoise and Hare statue, 248th Street and Broadway. Bathroom facilities are available here.

Directions

By subway: Take the northbound IRT #1 train to 242nd Street (the last stop). Exit at the front of the station and walk north. If traveling by bus or subway, check www.mta.info for any service advisories affecting your plans.

By car: Take the Major Deegan to the Van Cortlandt Park South exit. Drive west to Broadway, and then north to 252nd Street. Park on Broadway (please do not double park). For a minimal fee, additional parking is available in the parking lot behind the stadium, by the Van Cortlandt Park South exit.

Entry Fee

$7 for adults, $5 for youth 14 and under. Sign in at the race on race day only.

Awards

Awards will be given to the top overall male and female finishers and to places 1-3 in the following age groups: 12-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79 and 80+.

Race Scoring

This race is scored manually, without chips. Results will be posted on www.nyrr.org/results by the Wednesday following the race. Participation in this race does not count toward earning guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon.

Baggage Facilities

Free baggage facilities will be provided as a convenience. If using this baggage service, bring an inexpensive bag and leave your valuables at home. New York Road Runners is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Rules of Competition

All NYRR races are organized and directed under USA Track & Field rules and regulations. Entrants must also comply with City of New York, Parks & Recreation and NYRR rules.
