Thomas G. Labrecque believed that together we can accomplish anything. Join us for this marathon qualifier as we “run as one” to build awareness and raise money for lung cancer research. Whether or not you run, you can make a donation to support lung cancer research.

Course

All courses are subject to change. Check back here the day before the race for final confirmation.

The 5K run is an out-and-back course taking participants by some of Washington’s most beautiful landmarks. From Freedom Plaza, runners head southeast down Pennsylvania Avenue toward the National Mall. Runners then turn left onto Constitution Avenue near 3rd Street NW, and right onto 1st Street NW, heading toward the Peace Monument. After passing through the Mall, runners turn right onto Independence Avenue, loop back onto 2nd Street NW, and continue back along the same route to Freedom Plaza.

The 1.4 Miles Health Walk is an out-and-back course starting at Freedom Plaza. Participants will follow the 5K course and head southeast down Pennsylvania Avenue toward the National Mall. Walkers will briefly continue onto Constitution Avenue, a slight left, before the turnaround point where they will continue along the same route back to Freedom Plaza.

How to Register

Register online here; via mail or fax using the printable application (coming soon); you may also register in person; and at number pickup. No credit cards will be accepted once number pickup opens. Your entry fee includes a complimentary technical shirt (size satisfaction subject to availability). Runners may register at the following locations:

Post-Race

Enjoy food, music, children’s activities, and more at Freedom Plaza after the race. Please join us here for the awards ceremony for the 5K Classic as well. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in the following age groups: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89, 90+.

Public Transportation

There are several Metro train routes from the suburban areas surrounding the city. Federal Triangle Station is on the blue and orange lines. Walk north on 12th Street NW for about a half-block to Pennsylvania Avenue and then up to Freedom Plaza, about 2/10 miles. Metro Center services the red, orange, and blue lines. Walk south about two blocks on 12th Street to Pennsylvania Avenue and walk up to Freedom Plaza. This is about 4/10 miles. The Archives-Navy Memorial station is on the green and yellow lines. Walk directly up Pennsylvania Avenue for about five blocks or 6/10 miles.

Parking

Parking is on the street. Please read the street signs and be aware of the restrictions in this area near the White House and several other federal buildings.

Race Scoring

5K Run: This is a scored race that counts toward the nine races NYRR members need to qualify for guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon 2008. The race will be timed using the ChampionChip® system. You must complete the race with your chip attached to your shoe or your time will not be recorded. Start mats will be removed within approximately 10 minutes after the race start, after which net times will not be recorded. Please follow the instructions in your race packet on attaching the chip to your shoe and then returning the chip following the race. Note that you will be charged $35 if you do not return the chip within 20 days.

1.4 Miles Health Walk: This is an unscored walk. Your time will not be recorded; please check the clock at the finish line. This walk does not count toward qualifying for guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon.

Baggage Facilities

Free baggage facilities will be provided as a convenience. If using this baggage service, bring an inexpensive bag and leave your valuables at home. New York Road Runners is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Rules of Competition

All NYRR races are organized and directed under USA Track & Field rules and regulations. Entrants must also comply with City of New York, Parks & Recreation and NYRR rules. Failure to do so may result in offenders being disqualified and possibly banned from NYRR events, including the ING New York City Marathon. [Click here for rules.]
