On June 3, Japan Day @ Central Park kicks off with the Japan Run at 8:00 a.m. and continues throughout the day at Rumsey Playfield (Summerstage) with food, activities, and entertainment showcasing some of the most exciting elements of traditional and contemporary Japan. Japan Day @ Central Park was created by the Consulate General of Japan and the Japanese community of New York to say a heartfel "thank you" to the great city that America's largest Japanese community calls home.

Course

All courses are subject to change. Check back here the day before the race for final confirmation.

Start on Central Park's East Drive near 68th Street. Head north on East Drive and continue to the 102nd Street Transverse. Turn left/west across the transverse and then left/south on West Drive. Continue south to the 72nd Street Transverse, turning left/east to the finish line.

Number Pickup /Registration

Entrants are required to pick up their numbers, scoring chips, and race souvenirs at New York Road Runners (9 East 89th Street) on:

• Thursday, May 31, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
• Friday, June 1, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
• Saturday, June 2, 11:30-4:30 p.m.

On race day, Sunday, June 3, check-in/registration will be from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at the registration tent on Center Road.

Please note that the quantity of race souvenirs is limited and will be distributed on a first come, first serve.

Post-Race

An awards ceremony will follow the races, with awards given out in all applicable NYRR running categories. Japan Day @ Central Park festivities will continue all day at Rumsey Playfield. [Awards breakdown]

Japan Day @ Central Park Festivities

There will be live music on Rumsey's SummerStage, food tents featuring Japanese cuisine and sweets, activity booths featuring such traditional arts as origami and calligraphy, and "technology" tents displaying cutting edge developments in Japanese cameras, video games and anime.

Race Scoring

This is a scored race that counts toward the nine races NYRR members as of January 2007 need to be eligible for guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon 2008. The race is timed using the ChampionChip® system. You must complete the race with your chip attached to your shoe or your time will not be recorded. Please follow the instructions in your race packet on attaching the chip to your shoe and then returning the chip following the race. Note that you will be charged $35 if you do not return the chip within 20 days.

Baggage Facilities

Free baggage facilities will be provided as a convenience. If using this baggage service, bring an inexpensive bag and leave your valuables at home. New York Road Runners is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Rules of Competition

All NYRR races are organized and directed under USA Track & Field rules and regulations. Entrants must also comply with City of New York, Parks & Recreation and NYRR rules. Failure to do so may result in offenders being disqualified and possibly banned from NYRR events, including the ING New York City Marathon. [Click here for rules.]
