NYRR Fred Lebow Classic (5M) - Sunday, January 7 / 5M • 9:30 a.m. / Central Park, New York

New York City Marathon co-founder and NYRR president Fred Lebow changed the world through running before his untimely death from brain cancer in 1994. This five-miler in Central Park honors Lebow’s enduring legacy and kicks off the 2007 racing season.

Course


All courses are subject to change. Check back here the day before the race for final confirmation.

Start on Central Park’s East Drive at 102nd Street and head north, counterclockwise around the north end of the park. At the 72nd Street Transverse, turn left/east, and continue left/north on East Drive, turning left/west onto the 102nd Street Transverse to the finish.

 

Race Souvenir


All participants will receive a long-sleeve shirt plus a special souvenir. Size satisfaction is subject to availability.

Number Pick-up/Registration

 


Entrants are required to pick up their numbers, scoring chips, and race souvenirs at New York Road Runners (9 East 89th Street) on:

· Thursday, January 4, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
· Friday, January 5, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
· Saturday, January 6, 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
· Sunday, January 7, 8:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m.

If picking up in on race day, be sure to allow yourself enough time to get from NYRR to the start (approximately 13 blocks away). Race souvenirs may also be picked up after the race at NYRR while supplies last. Number pickup/registration and race souvenir pickup will not take place in Central Park.

Post-Race


Join us indoors after the race for hot chocolate, bagels, and the awards ceremony at P.S. 171 (19 East 103rd Street between Fifth and Madison Avenues). Awards will be given in all applicable NYRR age categories. [Awards breakdown]

Race Scoring

This is a scored race that counts toward the nine races NYRR members as of January 2007 need to be eligible for guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon 2008. The race is timed using the ChampionChip® system. You must complete the race with your chip attached to your shoe or your time will not be recorded. Please follow the instructions in your race packet on attaching the chip to your shoe and then returning the chip following the race. Note that you will be charged $35 if you do not return the chip within 20 days.

Baggage Facilities

Free baggage facilities will be provided as a convenience. If using this baggage service, bring an inexpensive bag and leave your valuables at home. New York Road Runners is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Rules of Competition

All NYRR races are organized and directed under USA Track & Field rules and regulations. Entrants must also comply with City of New York, Parks & Recreation and NYRR rules.
