One of the biggest fields of the year—more than 6,000 finished last year—is drawn to the challenging hills of Manhattan's Central Park for the first half-marathon of 2006. Participants include large numbers of marathon entrants assessing their fitness, along with plenty of shorter-distance specialists looking to extend their range to the 13.1-mile distance. The first race of the series makes for a bracing start to the new year.
