The NYRR Half-Marathon Grand Prix follows a longstanding tradition of welcoming runners to scenic, history-rich courses in New York City's five boroughs to race the popular half-marathon (13.1-mile) distance. This 65 ½-mile running tour is open to runners of all levels and abilities, from first-timers to experienced competitors. Whether you're a New York City native or just visiting, training for the ING New York City Marathon or looking for a new challenge, the series can help you reach your goals and enjoy the journey.

The Grand Prix begins in January in Manhattan with a challenging course through Central Park, and finishes nine months later on Staten Island. In between are races in Brooklyn; College Point, Queens; and the Bronx. Each race runs through unique neighborhoods that capture the special characteristics of the borough and offer glimpses of New York City's rich diversity. The individual races and the series as a whole build strength, confidence, and experience for all participants. The final half-marathon, on Staten Island, can serve as a tune-up for the ING New York City Marathon in November—or simply culminate a year's worth of effort and achievement.

Every runner who completes at least four of the five races earns a commemorative patch, and those who run all five receive a certificate and special gift. Additionally, runners who accumulate 20 or more points by placing overall or in their age group, who have completed at least two races in the series, and who have been an NYRR member for at least three months prior to the final race will be awarded prize money of $2 per point. Each race in the series also counts toward qualifying for guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon.

No matter which races you choose to run, or how many, you’ll build your stamina, get to know New York City, and have fun!
