The application and drawing period for the 2017 United Airlines NYC Half has passed, but you can still get a spot in the race by signing up to run with NYRR Team for Kids. You’ll receive professional training support while raising funds to help students across the country in New York Road Runners' youth programs experience the joys of running and fitness.

The 2017 United Airlines NYC Half will take runners from around the city and the globe on a 13.1-mile tour of NYC. Led by a talent-packed roster of American and international elites, runners will stop traffic in Manhattan this March!

Run Four Out of Six

Eligibility for entry to the 2017 United Airlines NYC Half was guaranteed for New York Road Runners members who had an active membership by the last qualifying event of the 2016 NYRR Five-Borough Series (Staten Island Half on October 9), and who ran four of the following six events in 2016: Fred Lebow Manhattan Half, United Airlines NYC Half, Airbnb Brooklyn Half, Queens 10K, New Balance Bronx 10 Mile, and Staten Island Half. Be sure to check your Five-Borough Series Status in your My NYRR profile.

The 2017 United Airlines NYC Half is a Four Out of Six qualifier for the 2018 United Airlines NYC Half, which follows the same model as above.

Medal Engraving for Members

NYRR Members: Join us at the NYRR RUNCENTER featuring the New Balance Run Hub after the 2017 United Airlines NYC Half for complimentary finisher medal engraving!

Sunday, March 19: 11:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m.
Monday, March 20: 11:00 a.m.—6:00 p.m.

Please have your NYRR Member Number (available on your NYRR member card or My NYRR) available at time of engraving. Can’t make it Sunday or Monday? Send a proxy to have your medal engraved; they’ll just need your NYRR Member Number.

Please note: Only 2017 United Airlines NYC Half medals will be engraved and all engraving will be done on-site; no drop-offs.

Course Info

Mile 1
Start on East Drive in Central Park, just north of East 72nd Street, and head north.

Miles 2-3
Continue north, and bear right at the Lenox Avenue exit from Central Park. Turn left at 110th Street/Central Park North. Run counter-clockwise around Central Park West Circle and return on 110th Street/Central Park North, then turn right at the Lenox Avenue entrance to Central Park. Bear right at East Drive and continue south on West Drive.

Miles 4-6
Continue South on West Drive. Turn right at the Seventh Avenue exit from Central Park. Continue south on Seventh Avenue through Times Square.

Miles 7-8
Turn right at West 42nd Street, then right at the West Side Highway. Run north in the northbound lanes, make a U-turn at West 44th Street, and run south in the southbound lanes.

Miles 8−12
Continue south in the southbound lanes of the West Side Highway.

Miles 12-13.1
Bear left at the Battery Park Underpass entrance. Run through the underpass and continue on FDR Drive North. Bear right at the South Street exit and then turn left onto Old Slip. Turn right at Water Street to finish on Water Street at Wall Street.

NYRR Pace Team

The NYRR Pace Team, wearing their signature white and blue striped singlets, will run even splits through all 13.1 miles of the United Airlines NYC Half. NYRR Pace Team members will lead runners to finish times at every five-minute interval from 1:20 to 2:15, and will also offer a 2:30 pace group. Visit the Running Lab at the United Airlines NYC Half Experience Presented by New Balance to meet the pacers and learn where to find them on race day.

Number Pickup & Registration

Runners must pick up their race number, technical shirt, and bag-check bag at the United Airlines NYC Half Experience Presented by New Balance, which will take place at the Metropolitan Pavilion, located at 125 West 18th Street in Manhattan, on the following dates:

  • Thursday, March 16, 11:00 a.m.—8:00 p.m.
  • Friday, March 17, 11:00 a.m.—8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 18, 8:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m.

Code of Conduct | Rules of Competition | Race Procedures


The 2017 United Airlines NYC Half finisher certificate will be available free of charge in both digital and print versions. Be on the lookout for a post-race communication from MarathonFoto with information about the finisher certificate.

Awards will be available to the top three men and women overall, as well as in age and gender groups as explained in this article. A list of all award winners will be posted in the results for each race.

Award winners that wish to receive an award plaque should complete our online claim form.

Prize Money

Open Division, Men and Women

NYRR Member Division, Men and Women
Cumulative with Open Division;
members must meet certain eligibility requirements.

Wheelchair Division, Men and Women

Women must start as part of the women-only invitational start at 7:18 a.m. to be eligible for prize money in the open category. NYRR-member prize money will be determined by order of finish based on gun time.

To be eligible for any NYRR member awards, an athlete must be a member in good standing of NYRR since September 19, 2016.
