A super-sunny Saturday welcomed 1,800 kids to Icahn Stadium, on Randall’s Island, where they took part in a variety of track and field events at the NYRR Youth Jamboree Presented by Tata Consultancy Services.
The summer-like day kicked off with racing, relays, shot put, and long jump for students in kindergarten through fifth grade, all of whom were cheered on by their peers in the bleachers.
The festivities continued with the Tata Consultancy Services Pre-K 55 Meters. The youngest participants of the day hurried to the finish line to collect ribbons from participants in the NYRR Striders program, which brings active programming to seniors all over New York City. Next, the Striders took the track for the Forever Young Invitational 100-Meter Dash and were greeted by pre-K runners at the finish—a true exhibit of the camaraderie that was present throughout the day.
In the afternoon, middle school and high school runners, many of whom are participants in NYRR's youth programs, took over the track, rounding out a day of fitness and fun for the city’s future track stars.
