Runners stepped out of sneakers, tights, and half-zips and into cocktail attire to attend the 38th annual NYRR Club Night, held at Hard Rock Café in Times Square on February 23. The event honors the top runners and teams in the city, as well as special award winners, and celebrates competition, camaraderie, and diversity in the sport.
Athletes of all ages and fitness levels, and their supporters, enjoyed a reception followed by an awards ceremony that recognized this year’s individual and team award winners.
"Congratulations to all of you and thank you so much for running with us and supporting New York Road Runners all year long," said NYRR President and CEO Michael Capiraso.
"Club Night celebrates all of you," added Peter Ciaccia, president, events, NYRR, and race director of the TCS New York City Marathon. "You are the heart and soul of New York running and we applaud all of you."
Fred Lebow started Club Night in 1980 as a celebration of outstanding achievements in New York Road Runners races. Following tradition, winners receive “Freddie” awards to honor their accomplishments.
The Joe Kleinerman Award went to Michael Ring for his outstanding and inspiring community service. Barbara Brown took home the Strider of the Year Award. The Team Spirit Award went to the New York Flyers. NYRR Youth Programs Awards were given to Amelia Camilleri and Arno Zheng. Fred Lebow Runner of the Year Awards went to Tadesse Yae Dabi and Etaferahu Temesgen. Anthony Butler and Melissa Blume were honored with Achilles Athlete of the Year Awards. Carlo Agostinetto and Julie Kheyfets took home Ultrarunner of the Year Awards.
After awards, runners hit the dance floor to celebrate their success!
