NYRR 5th Avenue Mile

 
 

On race day, a beautiful 20-block stretch of 5th Avenue opens to runners of all ages and abilities who want to run their best mile in NYC. Special heats include a youth mile, the George Sheehan Memorial Mile for runners age 60 and over, the NYRR Road Mile Championships, and Olympic-caliber professional men's and women's races.

This schedule is subject to change, so please check it again before race day. Entrants will run in sections based on age groups. You must run the section corresponding to your age and gender to be eligible for awards. Please note that no numbers (bibs) will be available for pickup after 12:00 noon.

The NYRR 5th Avenue Mile will feature a Selfie Station! Runners and fans are invited to snap a selfie with the pro runners after the race at the awards stage from 1:45 to 2:15 p.m. But act fast, the athletes’ availability will be limited.

Event hashtag: #5thAveMile—use it in your public tweets and Instagrams to be automatically entered into the new NYRR Social Hashtag Challenge to win prizes!



Live Results

Live unofficial results are available during the race at liveresults.nyrr.org. Features include leaderboards, map tracking, and an individual runner search that can be shared on Facebook and Twitter. Tell your friends and family to follow your progress, and because the system works great on mobile devices, you can get unofficial results right after the race!

Course Info

The start is on 5th Avenue near East 80th Street. You'll run south; you can check your progress by looking at the digital clocks at every quarter-mile mark. 

First quarter-mile (to 75th Street): The race begins on a slight downhill.

Second quarter-mile (to 70th Street): This segment features a slight uphill.

Third quarter-mile: There's another gentle downhill in this segment.

Fourth quarter-mile: The final five blocks are on a flat surface.

Accepted forms of payment include: credit card, check, and money order. Unfortunately, we are no longer able to accept cash payments.

Number Pickup & Registration

Numbers (which include your timing tag) and T-shirts may be picked up at NYRR (9 East 89th Street) on:

• Thursday, September 10, 1:00–7:00 p.m.
• Friday, September 11, 1:00–7:00 p.m.
• Saturday, September 12, 11:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Shirt size is subject to availability; please note that shirts may not be available at race-day pickup. Please pick up on Thursday or Friday to avoid crowds. On race day, pickup will be near the start from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Please note that no numbers (bibs) will be available for pickup after 12:00 noon.

Donate your gently used clothing and shoes to our partner Goodwill! Bring donations to Number Pickup & Registration at NYRR (not to the race site on race day, please) and drop them in the Goodwill bins—and thanks.

Awards

Awards will be available to the top three men and women overall, as well as in age and gender groups as explained in this article. A list of all award winners will be posted in the results for each race.

Award winners that wish to receive an award plaque should complete our online claim form.
