FAQ: NYC Half Second Drawing

The 2014 NYC Half will take place on Sunday, March 16, with a course from Central Park to Lower Manhattan, including a trip straight through Times Square. Here are answers to common questions about the second drawing. Stay tuned for additional FAQs covering all the details of race day.

My friend got an email inviting him to opt in to the second drawing. I have not, yet. What should I do?

We are sending the email to a large number of people and it should reach everyone by end of day on Thursday, January 9. Reminder: You have until Tuesday, January 14, at 11:59 p.m. EST to opt in.

When can I opt in for the second drawing, and what is the deadline for opting in?

Runners who were not accepted in the first drawing will receive an opt-in email on Thursday, January 9. These runners have until 11:59 p.m. EST on Tuesday, January 14, to opt in for the second drawing.

What are my chances of being accepted in the second drawing?

We’re unable to calculate your chances of being accepted because the size of the applicant pool is determined by the number of people who opt in for a second chance.

When will the second drawing take place?

We’ll conduct the drawing on January 16, and will inform you of your NYC Half entry status by end of day Friday, January 17.

When will my card be charged?

All accepted applicants will be charged at the time of their acceptance on January 16.

I was not accepted in the first NYC Half drawing, but I didn’t receive an email about the second drawing and I want to be included. What should I do?

Please check your spam folder. If you do not see the email, please email mynyrr@nyrr.org.  Please include your name, customer ID number, and date of birth with a short note requesting we add you to the second NYC Half drawing.

I opted in to the second drawing, but I changed my mind and don’t want to be included in the drawing. What should I do?

Please contact customer service by emailing mynyrr@nyrr.org before January 14 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Please include your name, customer ID number, and date of birth with a short note requesting that we remove you from the drawing.

I opted in to the second drawing—what happens next? Do I get a confirmation? Will my status be reflected in my My NYRR profile?

When you opt in to the drawing, you will be directed to a confirmation web page. Your My NYRR profile will not reflect a status change for the NYC Half until the second drawing is completed.

How can I update my credit card and by when do I need to do this?

Please log in to My NYRR to make sure that your profile has your current credit card information, including a valid expiration date of January 2014 or later. Follow these three simple steps to do this:

  • Log in to My NYRR with the email and password you used to apply to the NYC Half.
  • Choose the Account Settings tab.
  • Scroll down to Billing Information. Please check your Billing Profile: (Default 1) and make sure that all of your information is correct, including a January 2014 (or later) expiration date for your credit card. If you are accepted, this is the card that will be used to process your non-refundable entry fee.

All changes must be made to your Billing Profile on or before January 15 for the second NYC Half drawing.

I’m opting in, but I would like to run with my friend, who didn’t apply. Can she be part of the drawing too?

How do I opt in my son/daughter (age 12-17) who was rejected from the first drawing?

Please contact customer service by emailing mynyrr@nyrr.org before January 14 at 11:59 p.m. EST Please include your son/daughter’s name, customer ID number, and date of birth with a short note requesting we add your son/daughter to the drawing.

I didn’t apply to the first drawing, but I recently qualified by time for the NYC Half. Can I enter the second drawing?

No, this drawing is only open to runners who previously applied to the first NYC Half drawing.
