In the 10th annual Scotland Run 10K, a sea of 7,748 runners—many of them kilted—donned blue-and-white knit hats emblazoned with the Scottish flag to try to keep warm on an extra-chilly April morning. For First Minister Alex Salmond, however, it was just fine Scottish weather for his first trip to New York City for Scotland Week in five years and his first visit to the Scotland Run.
With Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond cheering them on, 7,748 runners completed a 10K (6.2-mile) circuit of Central Park to mark the 10th running of what has now become a highly anticipated annual event and a staple of Scotland Week and Tartan Day in New York City. The race did not disappoint, with a near–photo finish for the overall win and a new event record for the women.
